Premise: I am not a Realms expert, I own the Grey Box and 3e FRCS, and have run a few AD&D and 3e games years ago.

This said, I am looking for a D&D setting to use for my 13th Age campaign, and reading a few reviews of the 4e version, it struck me as a possibly good candidate, since:

1) it presents a sort of "clean slate" for the setting (I really don't mind about the canon)
2) it's mostly self-contained as far as setting material goes
3) the "high magic" tone and feel is pretty close to the 13th Age setting
4) the Campaign Guide seems to be mostly fluff, and the little crunch there is should be easily portable to 13th Age

Am I on the "right track"? I have also read the Players Guide is mostly crunch, so it's probably useless?
Comments and (informed) opinions are welcome!

Thanks,
Antonio

I've seen a lot of people merge the mechanics of 13th Age and the Forgotten Realms. While I don't own any 13A nor have I read much about the system, there were a few threads on here taking about a Realms 13A game.

Personally I think any time period works well with most gaming systems. I've run pre-Spellplague with 4E Rules and v3.5 games in the post-Spellplague Realms. There's little difference the setting makes in conjunction with the changes of the system.
