Gen Con Roommate(s) Wanted!
I have reserved a hotel room for Gen Con.
It’s at the Baymont Inn & Suites Plainfield/Indianapolis Airport Area. Here’s their website.
http://www.baymontinns.com/…/baymont-inn-and…/hotel-overview
The room’s reserved for Wednesday check-in, Sunday checkout.
My total bill is $396.86. Pretty cheap for Gen Con!
But it could be a lot cheaper, and to that end, I’m looking for a person or person to share the room and cut my cost in half or into thirds. The room’s got two double beds in it. If two people are comfortable sharing the bed that is not mine, we can do thirds.
The bad news is that this hotel is 14 miles and change away from the convention center. It is, however, on the con’s Green shuttle route. Here’s the current info on the con shuttle system, which I anticipate using. You’ll notice they haven’t posted a price for this year’s all-weekend ticket yet. Last year it was $50. I trust it won’t be too much higher this year.

Here’s info on taxi fares in Indianapolis. It looks like you could make a cab trip from the Baymont to the con or vice versa for around $35 including tip. Obviously, share the cab with fellow con members and that starts looking more viable.

Here’s info on Indianapolis’s Uber rides. It looks to me like they would make the trip for around $20. Again, share the ride and this looks better.

So, any interest? |

A treasure trove of thoughts on writing. Nice! I particularly relate with wanting to read something outside the genre you're writing in. It's like Monty Python: "..and now for something completely different." Thanks for sharing, Richard! |

Dear Mr. Byers,
I've written this question in a thread here in Candlekeep. Since I still haven't read your Rage of Dragons' trilogy (which I still intend to buy, BTW), and one of the characters in the books is an avariel bladesinger, Maybe you could help me with my questions:
"Hi, fellow sages!
I was looking for information on winged elven bladesingers, since this is the racial prestige class of the avariel in Races of Faerûn. I was intrigued about their existence, since I read somewhere that most avariel disappeared at the time of the establishment of the Dracorage Mythal, and that Bladesong was supposedly created a thousand years after that. But then I found out these informations were not in canonic material, but in the (excellent, I'd say) Elves of Faerûn PDFs.
Are there canonical sources for the disappearance of the avariel (I think it was probably kind of gradual, but when would one consider them "lost", or already seen as legend)? What about the origins of bladesong, are they mentioned officially anywhere? If so, could you please indicate those sources?
And for our musings: would avariel bladesong styles be different from land-bound elf styles? Maybe more related to birds than to mammals?"
Could you please bring me some light over these questions? Thank you in advance! |

Barastir, there is some info on avariel in one or more of the FR sourcebooks, but at this late date, I no longer remember which. I'm sorry, but it's been a long time since I wrote THE YEAR OF ROGUE DRAGONS, and I've written millions of words of material since.
I can tell you that I tried to be consistent with everything that had been established and then extrapolated from it to a degree. WotC accepted my extrapolations (which are in the novels) which in theory makes them canon now as well.
I can also tell you that I used the general information on bladesingers to create my character. I don't recall finding any info on avariel blade singers specifically. |

I'm delighted to announce that I will be writing three Iron Kingdoms novels for Privateer Press#8203;.
The novels will star the Black River Irregulars, who previously appeared in my novella "Murder in Corvis." If you haven't read that one and would like to, you can find it here:

Awesome! Are these going to be actual dead tree publications? So far, they've only given us one of those... |

According to Amazon, the anthology THE FALL OF CTHULHU has been available for a month. How did that slip past me? Anyway, I have a story in it, and I hope you'll check it out.
