Okay, so I've been rereading the Finder's Stone trilogy, and really enjoying it. I hadn't realized how subtly Grubb & Novak had slipped in some pretty mature themes into that series. I think they are too kind in their final judgement on Finder, though... his becoming a god really sucks and feels like a reward for being a self-centered jerk.

That said, I was puzzled by one part of the tale. Dragonbait is revealed to have a great love in the tale, Coral, whose worship of Tymora Dragonbait couldn't condone so he left and thus got captured.

Dragonbait is forced to kill Coral at the end of Song of the Saurials, she is fully possessed by Moander and totally rotted within. It's a tragic scene.

Of course, then we immediately jumpt to Finder and Akabar's struggle against Moander and Alias and Olive's grief for Finder (they think he dies). Dragonbait is never shown to grieve for Coral.

I just started Masquerades, which is 10 years later. Dragonbait is married to Copperbloom, a priestess of Finder, and has young. I just wonder, how did Copperbloom and Dragonbait become a couple? How did Copperbloom become a priestess of Finder, when did he reveal his divinity? Maybe this is mentioned in Masquerades and I just haven't reached that section yet.

I was just confused for years, I thought Copperbloom and Coral were the same character, so I was shocked when Coral died! I realize now I just got confused because it was a few years real time between the various books coming out. I reread Finder's Bane recently and I just assumed Copperbloom and Coral were the same! :)

Anyone with insight on this, that would be cool. :)

Well, just because the book (Song of the Saurial) didn't show it, doesn't mean that Dragonbait didn't morn in the book. We just didn't see it, also he is a paladin and might hold his emotion closer in.

The books of Finder's Bane and Tymora's Luck, deal with Finder's continuing of becoming a better person/god, more responsible. Which is show by even Copperbloom scolding him.

Ten years is enough time to morn and move on with living, even without the help of his people and Alias.

The adventure suppliment of Powers and Pantheons ( the second edition book which is root source for much of Faith and Pantheons in third edition) tell more of the tale. The Saurials see Finder as a Savour since he killed Moander and save them. So some of them worship him both as a art deity, a natue deity and a personal hero deity. But almost all of them give him respect and worship.

Just the start of my two cents.

Well..he was broken up with Coral when she became possessed, and had been apart from her for over a year or so before he found her again (where she was a possessed monster who tricked him). That plus we don't know much about Saurial culture, who knows how much grieving is done/displayed there, so I don't think it's too much to believe he'd move on and have a new family in the ten years between Song of the Saurials and Masquerades.

But yes, Jeff Grubb is an amazing author and Realms crafter. I think he writes the best Realms novels, personally. With Bob and Elaine close behind.

I never liked Finder as a deity to be honest. His ascension seemed rather contrived and I've never felt he filled in a proper niche in the pantheon. Not that a god of art isn't a 'niche' but it just didn't jive with me.

I have a dream that one day, all game worlds will exist as one.

I thought of him as very similar to Greyhawk's Quasi-deities, like Kelanen. I mean he only managed a handful of priests. :)
