So I've a player wanting to play an Azure you know the Fire-dwarves from the Plane of Fire. They have an Exceptional ability of Heat allowing them to deal 1 point of Fire damage on a grapple and channeled through weapons, has anyone read anything of this race? Obviously the biggest question is the heat willfully suppressed or do they ignite the chair they sit upon at the local tavern? Can they handle paper without igniting it or are we thinking more HEAT, like warm temperatures? Heated like in an oven but not ignited? Any ideas or opinions helpful, Thanks!

The only reference I can recall regarding this is that the trees that azers grow on the plane of fire are made of metal or have metallic bark. |
When life turns it's back on you...sneak attack for extra damage.

Azer is the proper name of the race.
In Dragon 350, there was an article called "Legacies of Ancient Empires." This article presented four new planetouched races for the Realms, which included azerblood -- a race descended from shield dwarves and azer.
It's obviously your choice what to allow, but I personally would allow an azerblood long before I allowed a full-on azer. |

I'd say that if they are so hot that their heat damage transfers through their weapons (granted, its only 1 point of fire damage)... then they got problems interacting on the prime. I'd see paper igniting. I don't see a chair catching on fire right away, but it would darken. Now, if it had any kind of cushion, we're talking full on fire. Basically, if you might use something as "kindling" to start a fire, then I see it as igniting if they hold onto it too long (lamp oil, paper, cotton cloth, dry/rotten wood, etc...) Furthermore, I see these individuals having problems with how "cold" the prime is compared to their home. They might need to heavily insulate themselves (though, I'm thinking their armor would aid this during the day) or become very sick.
Other than that, its not a bad little race, except they aren't native outsiders... so they die and its hard to raise them. They have a level adjustment of +4; but, they do get 2d8 hit dice, +2 base attack, and +3 on all saves to start, plus great ability bonuses. Throw on top of all that fire immunity, huge natural armor, and a supreme SR. But that cold vulnerability could be nasty if someone bypasses their SR (granted, one of the first things they may want to focus on getting is some kind of cold resistance). Hell, I'd love one of these as an eldritch knight, because even though their LA puts them 4 levels behind, they can enter the class without taking a level of fighter and would have at least medium armor proficiency (I state this because they are outsiders, and by their type they would get martial weapon proficiency and light/med armor & shield proficiency). Sticking a blended quartz breastplate combined with either a thistledown suit (races of the wild) or feycraft template (DMG2) and animated feycraft light shield on it all without any arcane spell failure, and you could push the dex up and still take advantage of it (note, you could also do blended quartz chain shirt without feycraft/thistledown suit along with a feycraft or mithril dastana). |

There was Clan Azerkyn in Deep Shanathar once. Saryndalaghlothtor is in contact with Azers of the Plane of Fire from 1373 on. |
