I posted a bonus excerpt yesterday as a reward for the folks who helped me raise $750 for Extra Life, a gamer-charity benefiting Children's Miracle Network. Today you can watch the D&D Extra Life team playing (and win a variety of prizes) at http://www.twitch.tv/wotc_dnd (I'm playing from 4pm-8pm PST). The excerpt is here: http://slushlush.com/2013/11/the-adversary-bonus-excerpt/ If you'd like to make a donation, Extra Life's datacenter was hit by a DDoS attack today (because some people are just evil ), and although it's back up, it may not be immediately accessible, but it will be soon. You can donate to a variety of teams...but I think you should pick mine. http://extra-life.org/participants/emevans |

Thanks, guys! I can't wait for you to read it.
I also forgot: There were two questions I asked the folks at WotC. One was "Can I use a drow?" The other I left out, but I think if you know the lore (Hi, Candlekeep ) and if you've read this far in the Sundering (or at least watched the Thurber House reading), you should be able to tell what it was and that they said "Yes, absolutely."
(I also double-checked that you could tell by asking Brian Cortijo/Garen Thal if he saw it. )
New excerpt tomorrow (Next book, I'm spreading these out...) |

Thanks!
I'm still kicking myself for not "listening" to her and yelling over everyone that I was going to follow those footprints into the crypt. Maybe I'll tweak it in the short story... |

I think this is sort of a weird excerpt--but once again, with Havilar I don't have that many options while avoiding spoilers! Fortunately, just about everyone who has read The Adversary has commented on this scene, so weird or not, it seems to be pleasing.
I am surprised you chose that scene, but it just reminded me why I love Havilar! She and Tam are my favorite characters thus far. Well, there was 1 more who I loved, but I doubt we'll see Rohini anytime soon. Or will we? |

I literally had this and an earlier scene (which you can read in the new sample chapter!--http://media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/The_Adversary_CH1.pdf) which is not Havi's POV, but a conversation she's a part of, to choose from. This book gets kind of crazy early on.
I can't say, obviously. But I can envision a book where they have to go back to Neverwinter. (Whether I can use Rohini or not may depend a little on what the Neverwinter MMO does with her, and what WotC wants to treat as canonical/non-canonical. At the moment, I would say she's out of my hands. ) |

Erin Evans, I did not want to read your books. Tieflings and dragonborn as the main protagonists? Where's my 'normal' elves, human knights, dwarven drinkers?
However, I wanted to read all of the Sundering, so I set out to read Brimstone Angels to be in the know.
I am VERY glad I did. Excellent writing, wonderfully described characters, and real fullness to their desires and failures as people. Loved it, and highly looking forward to The Adversary!

I strive for a little weird.
Here is the last of the excerpts, this one from the POV of Clanless Mehen, the twins' dragonborn father. The blog comes second, because it discusses things some folks might consider spoilery.
http://slushlush.com/2013/11/the-adversary-excerpt-character-blog-clanless-mehen/
The Adversary was also listed (along with The Godborn as one of this season's best science fiction and fantasy books by Barnes & Noble, as well as one of this season's biggest books and a staff pick!
And if you have not seen it, here is a most delightful review of Teh Adversary (although there are some spoilery bits, there are also illustrations--skimming may be in your interest) http://dungeonsdonuts.tumblr.com/post/67755925849/my-review-of-erin-m-evans-the-adversary-i-was
Last, I just got confirmation I will be reading and signing at University Book Store on December 9th at 7pm. So if you are in the Seattle area, stop by! |
