Hi everyone! I'm running the 2e realms in D&D Next at the moment! Currently this conversion is just fine because we were a 2e party adventuring near Jalanthar in the so-called "Caves of Chaos" which is already converted for us in D&D Next! However, as the party vanquishes their opponents in the caves, the question is posed of using old FR modules from the 2e timeline under the D&D Next ruleset. I currently don't have the time as a full time worker, part time student and political activist to design adventures as fast as we can run them. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for converting non-standard monsters and encounters(ones not in the Bestiary) from 2.0 into Next encounters. also, what is everyone's favorite 2e FR adventures?

Haunted Halls of Eveningstar is one of my favorites.
Ruins of Undermountain is fun. While I never played them, if everyone enjoys Ruins of Undermountain, there's a followup trilogy for more Undermountain adventures.
While it's not exactly a Realms adventure, don't be afraid to break out Tomb Of Horrors (S1). I'm pretty sure you can find tips for running it in the Realms online, I think WOTC included them in the 3E online conversion.
I did run a GDQ series adventure, using Menzoberrazan and Drow of the Underdark to Realms it up a bunch. |

I have to agree with SirUrza. The Haunted Halls was a favorite of mine also. Good place to start too. |

Here are a few ideas for you:
The Village of Hommlet: simply rename it to any out of the way village that you would like. Any agents of the Temple of Elemental Evil are instead of your local evil cult/gang. Replace St. Cuthbert with perhaps Tyr, replace the "Old Faith" (Druids) with Chauntea or Silvanus. Done. I just don't use it with the Temple of Elemental Evil. It is a good "starter village" with a dungeon nearby (the ruined Moathouse).
Baltron's Beacon: awesome swamp adventure with a good solid dungeon. It is a generic module that you can place anywhere there is a decently sized swamp/bog/fen (anywhere around Cormyr is good!); I personally used it in the Flooded Forest near Ylraphon recently.
Tomb of the Lizard King: another awesome generic swamp based dungeon (I used it before Baltron's Beacon).
Against the Giants: I know this one works well in the Realms. I placed the Steading of the Hill Giant Chief in the Hills of The Vast, the Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl in the White Worm Glacier, and the Halls of the Fire Giant King in the Earthspur Mountains just south of the Glacier. Instead of an active volcano, I just changed it to a regular Mountain. You can run these apart also, simply putting each in a different place in your campaign.
The "U" Series works really well if you place it south of Altumbel on the coast.
"A Heroes Tale" is a good solid work written by Monte Cook that can be dropped into the Forgotten Realms.
"Road to Danger" is another excellent work.
"Temple, Tower and Tomb" is one of my all time favorites! It has a special scrying device in it that is filled with blood and eyeballs...pure awesome.
That is a pretty good start... |

All D.D's are good. I'd also add Dragon Mountain & A Night Below to his list. Both are BIG adventures that can last you and your party for a long time. Both are primarily subterranean and can be easily put into FR. |

Night Below shoe-horns perfectly in the region of The High Moor in FR, and Lord Karsus (with input from me) also connected the Rockseer Elves with the Green Elves of Miyeritar (which vanished when the Dark Devastation created the High Moor) in his Elves of Faerūn netbooks.
I'd definitely go with Homlett, but unlike DD, I'd use the entirety of the Temple of Elemental Evil (and have, at least twice, in FR). You can build-up to all three GH super-modules in the same area (the giants, the slavelords, and the Drow). I've used them in the northern Daleands/Cormanthor region - the Slave Lords portion fits well in the Moonsea area.
Of course you have to tweak everything, but don't we always? |

I like the green elves to rockseer idea. That even explains the creation of the cystalline trees. Clever Markustay |
