I'm looking for tips from experienced Realms DMs. I've spent most of my time playing and DMing in the Silver Marches and the North. To me, these regions have a very distinct feel/flavor. I think I've done a pretty good job conveying that feeling to my players. But I think this region is pretty easy as it's full of contrast. For example, Silverymoon is an island of high magic and culture among the largely frontier-like Silver Marches. I plan on taking my campaign to Myth Drannor, across the desert. I seem to have a harder time making the other regions maintain their unique feeling/flavor...like the Dales, Cormyr, and the area around the sea of Fallen Stars.

What time period do you have your campagin set in? Differing times have differing "flavors".

The best suggestion I have for you is picking up Anauroch (9392), Dalelands (9320), and Cormyr (9410.)

I have found them in dispensable when dealing with these areas. They're all AD&D books and everything in them will be useful... well except maybe Anauroch if you plan on running a 4e era campaign.

There are Volo Guides for both Cormyr and the Dalelands, I would only pursue those if you plan on having the PCs stick around for awhile.

Ok Thanks. The time period I am playing in is that of the 3.5e FRCS. So...1360ish or so. Maybe 1372.

1372 is the 3E Campaign setting. What Urza suggested would also have been my suggestion aswell, but when you get involved in the Dales you might also want to get some background on the Moonsea with it´s city states having influence on ongoings in the region. Furthermore i´d suggest a glance in Lost Empires of Faerun for the Netheril and Cormanthor sections which could give you some plot ideas. For the Sea of Fallen Stars region, i´d suggest Pirates of the Fallen Stars for possible "obstacles" and depending on what area of the Sea of Fallen Stars you have in mind one of the respective source books on the regions.

The driving force in the multiverse is evil, for it forces good to act.
