I'm sure many of you have already seen this but I did not know about it until my wife stumbled upon it a few minutes ago. It's a huge pentagram found in Kazakhstan. The link is provided below but my reason for posting this is that I'm now curious as to what sorts of interesting things could be seen on Faerun from an aerial view. I'm going to post this question for Ed.

It is not quite a pentagram, the star points does not touch the circle.
It though is an interesting find, it would be more interesting to know the compass points and how they lie in orientation to other finds on the Earth.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

If you read the article, it's actually the outline of a park that was built when the country was still part of the former Soviet Union. Evidently, the pentagram was a popular symbol at the time.

My mind is racing with uses for such a find...imagine the colossal creature that could be summoned with such a symbol.

There is (was) Eltabbar in Thay. The entire city - roadways, waterways, structures, people - formed a massive living glyph within which the demon lord Eltab was bound. Back in the 1E/2E days, the Red Wizards were seriously dedicated to maintaining this magical prison ... they outlawed maps of the city for fear that each copy of the glyph diluted its power.

More recently, Szass Tam surrounded the entirety of Thay with his Dread Rings. These massive structures are probably visible from quite far away.

Have you looked up the famous Washington D.C. Pentagram? Which has it's main point at the White House. (Of course the Pentagram is not complete due to the streets not extending all the way.)

It is also linked the Square and Compass of the Masons in the city's design.

It comes down to the fact human minds are built to see patterns (and faces as well).

So many of the locations, buildings and other designs could have those kinds of shapes and symbols (either in world or from player's perspective) by accident, or look like they do when it's not there.

Then again, it could be on purpose. A good DM can leave it uncertain till the right adventure appears.

Side Note:

This reminds me of an episode of Brad Meltzer's Decoded. One of those interviewed which went with one line of thought is the Illuminati as part of the Free Masons, who were also Satanist, created the Statue of Liberty as a statue of Lucifer. Then another person said it could be seen as a statue of Lucifer... but not the devil. But the Roman term for the Light-Bringer, like bring enlightenment, wisdom and yes, the light of freedom.

Brad ended by saying all symbols like the Statue of Liberty has two meanings. The one meaning the builders meant, the other meanings which comes from those who see it.

Like how Mount Rushmore could be seen as both a statement of Patriotism, Manifest Destiny, and/or White Supremacy.

Things to think on...

Fox the Pentagon is not encased in a circle.

It is well believed many of the Founding Fathers of the US were Masons.

Not the Pentagon... the Washington Pentagram.

Look it up here on Goggle:

https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&tab=ww#bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&fp=e9edf79a1a58569f&hl=en&q=Washington+Pentagram

And some of the founding fathers were masons. We have facts for that. Heck the Cornerstone for either the Congress or the White House was blessed by George Washington in a Masonic ritual (Not sure if it was mainstream masonry or not).

Fox, OK looked at images, that is a pentacle, no circle surrounding it.

Oh I see some websites and online dictionaries are saying that pentacle is the same as a pentagram. *shrugs*

A recent suggestion of mine -- entirely non-canon -- was that Karsus built something similar to help him gather and focus the magic needed for his Ultimate Folly spell. Though I suggested for this idea that there could be several smaller formations of rock, each forming a rune when viewed from above, and all of them together trace out either a circle or a rune.

(The overall idea: Karsus used this formation, and it remained after his death. Years later, agents of Shade came to the Realms. The rock formations were still around, though some had become misaligned. The Shade agents realigned them, and used them to power the spell that brought Shade back. But there was too much power, and since some of the rocks had been misaligned for centuries, the excess power overflowed and went wild -- causing just about any change you want, from sorcerers and dwarven spellcasters to anything shy of the larger effects of the Spellplague. The idea was to have spellscars without the Spellplague, but it could also be used to explain the changes of 3E)

That's how I organized the pyramids of Ascore in one adventure. According to the ''sacred geometry'', 13 pyramids formed a spiral pattern to get most energy out of the Weave and the ley lines.

I just watched an episode of Supernatural with my wife and guess what? There was a huge network of train rails laid out in the form of a pentagram to keep some baddies locked up. What a coincidence.
