So power of faerun has a *really* fun feat called Heretic of the Faith

That lets you move in one step either way for a cleric, and up to even two steps. So LG, instead of just being LN or NG, you can be CG or potentially LE, although that LE may not be exactly long lasting when your god revokes your power as compared to CG.

What do you think can be done with this feat, that you would have fun with?

I would do something like what was discussed here about applying the Midgard Mask concept to Faerun and Divine Aliases:

Rai Guy was cautioned against his heretical thinking by a handmaiden when he dreamed of rising to power in menzoberranzan using the crystal shard.

That's seven levels higher that I would have thought. I thought males had to be clerics of Selvetarm (or hidden clerics of Vhaeraun or Ghaunadaur).

err... 3.5 edition ?

I looked it up , it is advanced d&d is when that showed up, and properly dispersed. Although I don't understand how rai guy got to be a cleric and wizard, during the servant of the shard.

I think its possible because RAS takes much more liberties gamerulewise than other authors do. (For example killing lich with shocking grasp when liches are immune to lightning)

A sometimes-prominent theme in my play was endless conflict, with of course many major battles and a few little wars, between disagreeable factions who worship Tempus. A theme involving the armoured knights and paladins of the “Holy Orthodox Army of Tempus“ vs hordes of bloodstained berserkers following the “Church of Sacred Battle“ vs the hated LAWFUL martial artist psi-monk heretics from the “Path of Enlightened Strategy“. The body count was glorious, and my PCs had a really hard time during all those fights over the Spiked Battle Gauntlet of Command.

One heresy I've been toying with has been the darker aspects of Sharess...after all at one time she was under the "care" of Shar and exploring the darker aspects of her portfolios...there would have to be a priest/ess that has continued with these thoughts and perhaps even now has dabbled in the shadow weave.

Well, there's that, and also the fact that we're talking about drow, who are not exactly known for being complete sticklers about rules and regulations, either.

Rai'gy might've serviced the right priestess who greased the wheels of the religio-political machine enough to let him slide right on through.

Why did irreverent, heretical, blasphemous Zaknafein get to live for 400 years? Same deal.

That sounds like someone that would be empowered by Shar after sharesss left her control, making her a worshiper of sharess only in name.

Maybe look up the PRC that deals with sharess and tweek that?

This would be true but if they are no longer receiving spells from Sharess as a heretic then they wouldn't have access to Sharess's portfolios or domains...

As Shar (NE) has caverns, dark, dungeons, forgetfulness, loss, night, secreets, and the underdark as her portfolios...while her domains are cavern, darkness, evil, and knowledge...

In contrast, Sharess (CG) has hedonism, sensual fulfillment, festhalls, and cats as her portfolios with Chaos, Charm, Good, Travel, and Trickery as her domains...

As a heretic of Sharess, they would still have access to all of her domains but would be able to have an evil alignment without risking lose of her cleric spells. And would be little different from the heresies given in PoF.

The only monkey in the works would be the Shadow Weave access, for which Shar can grant to whomever she chooses and don't necessarily have to be her followers (see the prereq for the Shadow Weave feat which only requires that whomever takes it have Wis 13 OR have Shar as their patron). So it is entirely plausible.

One thing that it does say in the ad&d is that if a suspected heretic passes the test of lolth, them could be admitted into the priesthood. Maybe ray guy started out as a wizard but passed his loyalty test and chose to enter the clergy, and because of his mastery of magic the females were hard pressed to kick him out while he was in lolth's favor.until they had a provable reason.

"Alignment restrictions for Sharess's clergy (particularly clerics) are weak, and a gentle slide toward evil is still often tolerated. Those priests who remain evil and seem unwilling or unable to drift back toward neutrality in their behaviour are secretly entreated by agents of Shar to shift their worship to the Dark Maiden while maintaining their position within the clergy of Sharess. The Feline of Felicity seems unwilling or unable to prevent such defections at this time, rare though they may be." (Powers & Pantheons, p. 53).

I would think that such heresies as relate to the Lady of Loss would have to do with drug addiction (as opposed to occasional use without addiction), nonconsensual pleasures (dungeons) or theft (loss). The repeated use of spells that control or dominate other sentient beings or alter their memories (forgetfulness) might also be contrary to Sharessan dogma as I've suggested in Part 9, 'On Domination', of my 'Writings on Sharess'. Using one's knowledge of another's indiscretions for blackmail (secrets, knowledge) could also be considered evil.

Shar is not, of course, the only competition for Sharessin who've gone astray. Heavy BDSM might well lead one into the clutches of Loviatar, for example.

To be fair, that is quoted from a book that is 2e, by the time you roll around to 3e, sharess has turned into this sort of warrior seductress, even going so far as having Exalted level good servants , an returning to her semi war roots, fighting sett every now and then.

Just found this: http://eilistraee.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=384

and it got me to thinking of a possible heresy in Eilistraee's church in which males 'break away' from perceived female domination and form their own community lead primarily by them? Note: In my Realms Eli is alive and well...but I'm thinking she will return post-sundering and this idea could still be used.

Realistically, that was probably established just to show just how uniquely dangerous Jarlaxle's associates were. It's funny thinking about it, because people often accuse RAS of using Drizzt and Jarlaxle as munchkin characters. But whenever he includes spellcasters (wizards, priests, clerics) or that one peculiar psion, he's always clear that they would annihilate his melee characters in combat.

Also, Rai-Guy's priestly powers can always be explained away by Lolth's fickle nature. It's just like her to occasionally make a male a priest for no reason. And when Rai-Guy dreamed of using Crenshinibon to conquer Menzoberranzan, Lolth did send a yochlol to remind him of his place in drow society.

Why would you think so? LE: minds his duty exactly, only gets noticeably vicious and/or overbearing about it at times. CG: runs off on a random adventure.

There can be local laws. Such as they are between the Drow. These guys are not only limited in advancement, but priestesses trust them even less than each other - in part exactly because they have options to convert away (and backstab their former associates) more likely than Eilistraee.

After ToT, the latter would most likely simply switch (or drift) to Red Knight.

Potential Heretical idea - the power known as Fate in Zakhara is actually Tyche and the followers of Tymora and Beshaba are simply worshipping aspects of Fate.

That would be a great way to introduce Fate into mainstream Realms.
