I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I hope this is okay!

If you are in Columbus, OH or thereabouts, Thurber House is hosting a discussion, Q&A and book signing about The Sundering, featuring R.A. Salvatore, Ed Greenwood, and me, with James Wyatt moderating.

EDIT: Okay, maybe they should have come up with a shorter title for the event...Retitled scroll.

Someone post a summary of this after it happens. I have a big mass of water preventing me from attending the event.

Sir Markham pointed out, drinking another brandy. "A chap who can point at you and say 'die' has the distinct advantage".

When I saw the subject of this title, my first thought was of the Sundering itself happening in Ohio!

Tanthalas, there's a possibility it might be recorded too (they've been recording a lot of the Sundering panels/events). I'll check.

At the climax of the Sundering, Elminster makes peace with Jerry Springer and they team up to defeat a shadow-infused Cleveland Cavaliers, who all dribble very docile beholders. It's insane.

I think I saw a link for this on the main WotC site a couple weeks ago. I REALLY hope this gets recorded and posted to YouTube, if for no other reason than to keep a record of the lead-up to the Sundering.

Look for me and my content at EN World (user name: sanishiver).

This is turning out to be a more complicated answer to secure than I realized! I'm up to three people in the email chain. The short answer is that it will be recorded, but I don't know for sure yet where and when the recording will be available.

(You should still come in person if you're in the area, of course.)

In a surprise twising of the fabric of space-time, I will be in Columbus for the Thurber House event. I can't promise to record anything (having no fancy recording-type devices), but I can report, later on, if there's aught worth reporting.

Yes, it will be recorded and available to view online sometime after Gen Con.

I was able to attend the Sundering event at the Columbus Museum of Art last night. I had a great time and I am glad I decided to attend. If you have never been to a seminar/book signing like this, I would recommend going if you like the authors that will be at the event.

Hopefully an audio or video recording will be posted, there was more than I can accurately describe. I will mention the things I liked and my impressions below. I won't try to quote anyone, though, and any inaccuracies are my fault and not the fault of Ed, Erin, Bob, or James.

All of the authors (Ed Greenwood, Erin Evans, Bob Salvatore) and the moderator (James Wyatt) were very pleasant and professional throughout the seminar and the book signing afterwards.

Ed had a child-like (and I say that as a compliment) glee in many of the things he described. I particularly liked how he said that his book outlines end up being about 1/4 the length of the final book - mostly because he actually has to write _something_ and possibly to "make the editor pay" for demanding outlines (he did say he understands why the big publishing house need outlines, so this is more likely Ed having fun with the editors). Ed said he much prefers just to get to the draft.

Both Ed and Erin read a chapter from their upcoming books in the Sundering series. Both did a very good job of reading their chapter, and Ed really got into the roles of each character as he read his chapter. Erin was a little more subdued than Ed, but I think that was more because most of the characters in the chapter she read were children - however, she did a good job of conveying that children were speaking (whereas Ed's characters were rowdy nobles and this were more rambunctious).

Bob shared anecdotes about his first Realms book (The Chrystal Shard) - the editor making the pitch for his book called him at work and wanted to have a sidekick for what was going to be the main character (Wulfgar) and he had to make up Drizzt on the spot because she was late for the meeting. And of course once he started writing the book, he realized by the second or third page that Drizzt had to be the main character.

Both Bob and Ed mentioned (I had heard about this online before the seminar) that the two of them starting planning / plotting what came to be the Sundering / post-Spellplague as soon as they got out of the meeting where the Spellplague was announced to the fiction authors (back in 2006?).

Erin mentioned that after reading letters written by one of her relatives (a grandfathers, I think) who was in a Japanese internment camp in the Philippines during World War 2 and seeing that he still had typical teenage concerns (girls and dancing), she wanted to have some of that same "regular life" aspects in fantasy / Realms novels.

During the book signing, one of the books I asked the authors to sign (in addition to the novels for each that I purchased at the event) was the 4th edition Campaign Guide, since all of the authors wrote fiction during the 4e / Spellplague time. Erin had mentioned during the seminar that she is about to play in a Realms game soon, and she wanted to look something up in my 4e book. Unfortunately what she wanted to find was in the Players Guide instead, so I wan't much help.

Bob shook hands with everyone that came up to him for book signing. The other RPG book I brought along to get signatures for was Elminster's Guide to the Realms. Apparently Bob hadn't seen one first hand, since he thought it was an older book (probably because it didn't have the look and feel of the 4e books). He really liked how the book was put together as well as the physical components and appearance of the book.

I hope I get more chances in the future to attend seminars / book signing for Forgotten Realms authors, whether t be these three again or some o the other good authors writing for the Realms.

Greg
