What are the chances of a hobgoblin entering places like Glister, Melvaunt, and Phlan? Are the humans too "shoot first, talk later", or perhaps mercantile enough to let anyone pay to enter?

I have a player whose character is a hobgoblin, and we are centered in Thar. He is attempting to rally the goblinoids (mainly the red claws at this time) and bring some level of control to the trade through Thar (Melvaunt to Glister), but would like to interact with the humans on more civil terms.

I think it can works as long as the rest of the characters are acceptable. He might be presented as a renegade scout or as a slave-soldier of some sorts, but if he walks around by himself I would think there would be trouble. His goals might actually lead him into more trouble in my opinion; there are few people who would believe that he had anything but sinister ideas for the unified goblinoids.

No Canon, more stories, more Realms.

I think it would be better if your player maintains a low profile for some time. When he has known all the tactics of the game, he should surface and then play.

I do see Melvaunt rather send Adventurers and their Army to deal with the goblinoids before they let them control trade in the Thar. Trade and merchants are the most important things in Melvaunt and i can not see the three ruling families to simply let it fall into hands of goblinoids, especially the Bruils who are the spokespeople and dominant force of the blacksmiths who rely on the metal from the mines near Glister.

The driving force in the multiverse is evil, for it forces good to act.
