To be honest ive only played in the realms through sessions and old DOS games like Menzoberanzan but ive never really read any novels. Having said that I'm putting together a campaign that takes place in the north and i was looking for some older novels to read to get a feel for it does anyone have any suggestions id like some that were written in the old 2nd ed era maybe written by ed greenwood himself? thanks for any info i appreciate it

The Crystal Shard by Salvatore takes place in Icewind Dale and is the first novel where Drizzt is featured.

Paths of Darkness is the best Drizzt storyline imo. However, much of it takes place along the Sword Coast.

Try out the Year of Rogue Dragons, the last one takes place in the Great glacier and the others two are in various interesting places like Damara.
