Saw a link on Margaret Weis' facebook page that I think you all might enjoy: Masters of Fantasy - TSR: The Fantasy Factory.
This documentary is from 1997. As Weis noted, at least three of the people in the documentary have passed on: Gary Gygax, Brian Thomson, and Dennis Kauth.
Much love and thanks to those people and everyone else whose work inspired my imagination and creativity.

Rewatched it when it was making the rounds on G+ a few weeks ago. Good stuff. This was the first time I became aware of TSR as a brand/company, and Dungeons and Dragons really. Before I knew D&D was some "board game" a few friends mentioned, but I hadn't played it yet.
I remember originally watching this show on the Sci-Fi channel (well before it mutated into the current SyFy entity) back when it had a very "underground" "indie" vibe to it. They had some fun segments on at the time, like digging through a movie prop warehouse or giving Harlan Ellison a full 15 minutes to rant about the fallout of the Green Lantern/Parallax arc. That's stuff you don't see anymore, not outside of YouTube videos and the like. In a way, original Sci-Fi channel was ahead of its time on the geek forefront. |
