In the Old Grey Box, this fellow is a 12th level cleric of Bane.
Does anyone have any updated information on the fellow?

Oh I remember this guy. I used him on a rescue mission my players made in the temple of Cyric located in Voonlar, which replaced the temple of Bane. I can't remember if he switched deities and went with Cyric and heads the temple, or if I personally made him do that unofficially. I don't remember any updates beyond 2E on him, I tweaked him myself. |

I have this on him but im not sure where from (probably collected from a 2nd edition Moonsea supplement)
quote: There are two major temples in Voonlar one dedicated to Cyric, and the other to Chauntea. The temple of Cyric is known as the Dark God Reformed, and is commanded by Gormstadd the Rerisen (LE hm P14.) Gormstadd is served by 14 lesser priests and an elite temple guard of 16 4th-level warriors. The Dark God Reformed has been raided many times by adventurers from Shadowdale, and Gormstadd has a standing bounty of 10,000 gp on the head of the Lord of Shadowdale, Mourngrym Amcathra. Gormstadd is a brawny man with a small, narrow face and eyes that gleam like two shards of flint. Haughty, arrogant, and disdainful of the common rabble, he spends his days nursing his great hatred of Chauntea, the Harpers, and Shadowdale, concocting numerous plans to make them all suffer. Buorstag and Gormstadd are very good friends. The two meet for dinner, wine, and chess at least twice a week. Little in Voonlar escapes their notice. Buorstag and Gormstadd hate Lady Shrae. They would like nothing better than to see the Bounty of the Goddess levelled and Shrae’s head mounted on one of the spiky battlements of the Dark God Reformed. However, it is clear that Chauntea’s hand is on Shrae, and an unprovoked attack on the priestess or the temple would escalate matters too far. This, plus the destruction of Zhentil Keep, has forced the two men to put aside the matter for now.

It's actually from one of Ed's columns on the WotC website from years ago when he did a write-up of Voonlar.

Wow, there's so much gold lying all around, I never knew about this "Elminster Speaks" column :-) Since I'm playing Forgotten Realms 2nd Edition AD&D this is quite the interesting download. I know it wasn't the intention but this led to me discovering a PDF compiling the columns, so for that I give thanks (and a little bit o' tithe to, ah, let's see...today's tithe goes to Loviatar). |
