I think two characters from Empyrea wound-up in The Realms, officially. One was doc/Radoc, but I forget who the other was (unless I'm wrong, and there was only one).
At that time, Empyrea was located on a continent 'far to the east' of Oerik - Oerth's (GH) main continent, so its just one more GH/FR connection. However, this new iteration doesn't appear to be (officially) connected to GH, so who knows.
They're asking for an awful lot of money (IMO) for a setting they havn't told us one damn thing about... only gave us lists of names of 'old school' designers who have 'been invited to participate'. Well, then, should I also be excited by some porn start-up that promises to bring us "new porn from the stars of the 50's"? *GAH* To be perfectly honest, a LOT of that 1e material was downright crappy, and even the art is better now. They're selling to nostalgia, nothing else, and nostalgia just isn't in my budget anymore.
And one more 'generic psuedo-Medieval fantasy setting' is just going to get lost in the pack, no matter how good it is. We already have an FR, and a GH, and a Mystara, and Golarion, etc, etc. Even Ed's own setting never took-off, because it was just too much like whats already out there. I wish them the best of luck - there are still a lot of old-time gamers left out there, so maybe it'll get funded. They can get milked one last time. |

There are some very fine-looking, if Warhammerish, minotaur miniatures being Kickstarted at the moment, designed by Alexei Popovici and produced by Zealot Miniatures: The Minotaur Horde
It includes female minotaurs, a shaman, scenery, a sleeping minotaur and (to be unlocked) a minotaur corpse.
(A freebie offer pushed me to post this, but see what you think.) |

Below is the link to the KS page, the KS closes on November 15th for those who might be interested.

The best part is that they plan to release editors after the games release so you can make you own campaigns/modules ala NWN & NWN2. I hope it is successful. It appears pretty far along the development cycle, with an anticipated release date of early 2020, with a combat beta and early access due from the middle of next year.
I assume it is OK to link the KS page, please remove if not.

Hmmm, the one thing that gives me pause
More than one hundred spells, each with unique, stunning visual effects
Its got 8 classes. Its based on 3.5. Sounds great... but it should have a LOT more than just 100 spells if there's 8 classes (cleric, druid, wizard/sorcerer, paladin, ranger, bard.... ). Granted, they say more than 100, which could mean 200 or so. With 9 levels of spells (assuming they advance up to level 20 mind you) cut across the 3 mains alone (cleric, druid, wizard/sorcerer) if they have 3 unique spells per level that's 81.
Then again, I may seriously be making an assumption in thinking the spells go above 3rd level. The video shows a listing of spells and none at a glance are of 4th level or above I don't believe.
BTW, I would love to see a 3.5 based game like this that actually got into the spells. One of my favorite things was Baldur's Gate II where it had things like contingency and simulacrum and spells that stored other spells, etc... |

This youtube video has some sample combat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvc2NdR_1O0&t=16s The mage has access to level 5 spells, using a Summon V spell at 7:56 to summon some sort of demon. I believe the intent is to have more spells, but only if the KS campaign is successful. Looks promising and you can find out more at the games website https://www.realms-beyond.com/ if you're interested. |

I'm not sure if I want to back this one or not...
Lord Gelbert Jellington - A Gelatinous Plush Dice Pouch
quote: Lord Gelbert Jellington is a friendly gelatinous cube who will hold your favorite shinies, coins, preciouses, or polyhedral dice set (without all that messy acidic slime).
He measures 5.5 inches and is made with super soft minky fabric. He has adorable embroidered details as well as a matching zipper for his pouch of holding. This zippered pouch can easily hold two 7-piece sets of polyhedral gaming dice.
It is delightfully goofy, and thus strongly appeals to me... but at the same time, it's more than I want to spend for a glorified dice pouch that I'll never use.
So I don't know if I'm going for this one or not. But I am sharing it. |

I think I'm going to support this one, at least at the pdf level.
Remarkable Shops & Their Wares
quote: The Ultimate Guide on Roleplaying Shops Remarkable Shops & Their Wares is the ultimate guide to fantasy shops and how to roleplay them. From the classic general goods store to wildly exotic locations such as magic item artificers, black markets, underwater libraries, and traveling merchants.
The Highly Anticipated 2nd Book! Following the success of our Remarkable Inns & Their Drinks book, Remarkable Shops has all the familiar ingredients that made "Inns" such a big hit, while being bolder and bigger, exploring new exciting avenues.
This book is written to be largely system neutral, providing 90% worldbuilding ideas, rumors, roleplaying ideas and more that are not rules-specific. It is very easy to adopt the material into your fantasy roleplaying game and is bound to inspire you and your players.
Estimated content around 100 pages Full-color and "pencil" illustrations Largely system neutral contents to fit any fantasy ttrpg Some special effects and item stats in "5e-ish" rules Easy to adapt and fit into any campaign
And...
quote: Wonderful characters, items and history - Remarkable Shops is filled with interesting NPCs, wares, and history behind the stores. The pages are fully stocked with rich world-building details and rumors/story hooks to use in your campaign. Indeed, many of our characters such as Bilz Fizzlenozzle and Quilla Bladesong are now mainstay personalities in roleplaying campaigns around the world.
Common Goods & Exotic Items - Our book will not only list an extensive range of common goods, local produce, prices and services. It will be packed with imaginative exotic wares, rare goods, magical items and more. Prepare to be inspired!
Elevate your stores - This book, like Remarkable Inns, sets a new standard for what detail and roleplaying you can bring to a "cliche". With this book, you will no longer have the players simply dump their gold and move on. The core chapters describe everything from the classic general goods store, to item prices, services, how local products are sourced, and supply and demand. Never was there a more detailed source for roleplaying shops. Then we deep-dive into exotic wares, magical items, markets, festivals, traveling merchants, clandestine operations, and much more.
Build Your Fortune - The last section of the book is wholly dedicated to building your own store. This allows the GM to roll up (or choose from many, many tables) the most detailed shops ever to grace your world. From buying the property to hiring the architect to draw the plans. From sourcing building materials to overseeing construction. From the staff, grand opening to operating and becoming profitable. Have high-level characters that are ready for their next big adventure? Have them open a store!

If you are into minis, the latest round of reaper bones kickstarters just started
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/reaperbones5/reaper-miniatures-bones-5-escape-from-pizza-dungeon
and yes, even though I have way too many already, I pledged.
Oh, and Wooly, I know its not a reason to buy it, but I thought of you when I saw the latest add on. At $1,090,000 (which apparently they've already passed by 80 thousand and don't even have set what the next goals are... damn, that's in less than 24 hours....) they put in a dragon wolf... some kind of bat winged wolf. I remember you talking about something called silverwolf in the past or somesuch that was a winged dog on some kind of anime or something, so when I saw it, I thought of you. |

Been meaning to look into this one; I got a handful of minis (all add-ons) from the prior one.
Silverbolt was a wolf/eagle mix in the otherwise bad Transformers Beast Wars cartoon. I really disliked almost everything about the cartoon, but Silverbolt was cool. Body of a wolf, forelegs and wings of an eagle. |

Since I'm not a minis enthusiast, that Reaper Bones KS has thus far failed to grab me. There were add-ons with the last one that I liked and went for, but thus far, there's only a couple of minis I like, and none of them are in the add-ons. |

Not sure if anyone posted this yet, but this guy is an excellent artist and he is offering a FULL license to his work if you back it (so all you would-be authors/designers take note!) I actually plan to use some of this in game mods (video games - my new thing LOL), but it could even be used around the edges of maps to dress them up, or whatever... and no worries about getting sued if you've back his project. I am going for the B&W ones myself, because I can do my own coloring (and prefer that, so its different to how others might use it). Hell, even if you just want to look at his stuff and help promote a D&D artists, go in for the 10 bucks... it just makes the whole community better. Cheers

The next Kickstarter I'm backing!
Ptolus: Monte Cook's City by the Spire
Monte Cook's legendary campaign setting, updated for Fifth Edition and the Cypher System.
quote: Welcome to Ptolus.
Welcome to Ptolus. A city of mysteries, secrets, and dark histories. Ptolus lies forever in the shadow of a towering stone spire reaching impossibly high into the sky, itself an enigma and a reminder of evil long past. And it sits atop a seemingly endless network of ancient dungeons that draw adventurers from all corners of the Empire.
In Ptolus, the supernatural is expected and treachery lies around every corner—or is it that the supernatural lies around every corner and treachery is expected? Either way, the city of Ptolus abounds with danger, magic, intrigue, and above all, adventure.
An Incredible Setting
Historians measure Ptolus’ age in centuries, not years, but every resident knows that at the top of the impossibly tall spire looms a fortress even more ancient than the city itself. Recently, explorers also discovered extensive subterranean catacombs beneath the city’s streets (although many now claim to have always known about them). When word spread that within this labyrinthine undercity lay ancient treasures and magic, waiting to be discovered, people flocked to the city. The enterprising people of Ptolus quickly adapted to this influx of adventurers and delvers, which created a boom-town atmosphere among the age-worn streets.
But Ptolus holds many secrets beyond simply the dungeons below. First and foremost among those secrets is that which hangs above every head in the city. The ancient fortress of Jabel Shammar was not built atop a rocky spire—in fact, the fortress came first. The vaunted spire is simply the very earth attempting to thrust the evil within that dread place as far from it as possible.
Care to come to Ptolus, City by the Spire? Dare to try your luck in the catacombs below the streets? You might find great treasure, but you might find deadly danger as well. Or perhaps you’d rather find intrigue and adventure in the city’s streets and alleyways, pavilions and temples, for there’s plenty to be experienced there as well. No matter what you choose, you’ll likely find something far more intricate and complex than you ever expected.
And should you survive it all, will you hone your skills and find power and knowledge that might allow you to explore the infamous Jabel Shammar at the top of the spire itself? Such an undertaking would be the most epic of all…
An Impressive Endeavor
Ptolus is a massive fantasy city setting. The 672-page book (which comes with hundreds of additional pages of handouts and extras) gives you an amazing amount of detail, but is carefully designed and laid out to make everything easy to digest, manage, and access.
Ptolus isn’t just big. It also feels alive. It’s a place you can inhabit—a place with an atmosphere you feel. Many places, actually, because the city itself contains numerous quarters, each of which has its own nature—and that doesn’t include the many underground regions or the spire that looms over the entire city which holds not one but two seemingly unreachable fortresses. The book’s unique presentation doesn’t just make it easy to use, it also imparts flavor to virtually every page—and every district, location, NPC, faction, and mystery.
Ptolus, and the world around it, is dynamic. Three different people lay claim to the Imperial Throne. A myriad of factions pursue their goals, often with secrecy and skullduggery. The Holy Emperor clashes with adherents to a multitude of other faiths. Merchants and cityfolk pursue their day-to-day lives, while delvers continue to unlock the secrets of the recently uncovered vast dungeons beneath the city. Throughout Ptolus, wheels are in motion. But the story is yet to be told, and Ptolus is set up to make it your story.
Finally, Ptolus as a setting was built specifically for the world’s most famous fantasy RPG. It’s a world that operates according to the game’s assumptions. Everyone knows that monsters and wizards are not only real, you might see one on your way to the market. The blacksmith down the road might be finishing a harness of full plate armor in addition to the normal tools and horseshoes. Humans strolling down the street rub shoulders with elves, dwarves, halflings, half-orcs, as well as leonine litorians, winged cherubim, and even centaurs and lizardfolk. Laws and traditions dictate when and how magic can be used in commerce, legal affairs, gambling houses, and other everyday transactions. These considerations aren’t tacked on to the setting—they’re baked into its foundations.
Ptolus is an urban campaign setting, but it’s also a setting of dungeon delving and subterranean exploration. Your own Ptolus campaign can run the gamut between dungeon adventures and urban adventures, in whatever mix you choose. The latter involve a surprising array of organizations and of individuals that live in this less-than-typical fantasy city.
In addition, this tome contains scores of creatures, magic items, spells, and character options that are unique to Ptolus. Along with new character species, such as the noble leonine litorians and the winged cherubim, plus rules for dangerous soul magic, the bizarre abominations of chaositech, useful innovations of technology, the fearsome wintersouled, and much more.
An Amazing Product
Ptolus: Monte Cook’s City by the Spire is amazing. It’s not just huge—672 beautiful pages plus hundreds of physical and digital extras—it also set new standards for physical production. From its embossed cover to the multiple bound-in satin bookmarks, everything about Ptolus is premium quality. Top-notch art and abundant cartography grace virtually every page. The extras packet contains handouts, player maps, and posters. The library-quality binding exceeds the standards of virtually every other RPG product ever published.
And that describes the original printing of the book, back in 2006. That’s the standard we’re starting with—who knows how we might improve upon that through stretch goals in this Kickstarter?
Rather than being an impenetrable tome, however, Ptolus has been designed with Game Masters in mind. Multiple indices and glossaries help you manage all the content. The margins contain page references where you can find more information about what you’re reading, or the map for the location being described. Quick-to-use tables and summaries indicate what’s in each district, who lives there, and even the mood of the place so that you’re never caught flat footed when the PCs stop a random person on the street for a quick chat.
In addition to the book itself, which includes a packet with dozens of physical handouts, including maps, player aids, a character sheet, and even props like a restaurant menu, permits, and a wanted poster, Ptolus also comes with nearly 300 pages of digital extras, including:
- Two campaign journals that take you, session by session, through Monte’s own Ptolus campaign.
- Saga of the Blade, a Ptolus novella.
- Handy tools for making the book even easier to use and navigate, including an expanded table of contents, a massive searchable index, and a detailed key to the main Ptolus map that gives you locations for hundreds of sites.
- This Week in Ptolus, a chronicle of the design and production process.
- A Ptolus character sheet, in both printer-friendly and device-friendly, form-fillable versions.
- And dozens and dozens of player handouts and game aids, including digital versions of the items in the packet with the book, plus scores more.
A Piece of History
The original Ptolus: Monte Cook’s City by the Spire was published in 2006 for use with 3rd Edition. At the time it was the largest RPG title ever produced by a single author—and that probably remains true today. That unique, singular vision shines through on every page. Today, though, our top-notch team at Monte Cook Games will make everything tailored for 5e and the Cypher System, and you get to choose which version to make your own—why not both!
The setting was built out of Monte’s personal, long-running D&D campaign. He ran it as he—and his players—developed the game’s 3rd Edition, and in the years shortly after that edition’s release. The players were all insiders: designers, editors, business and marketing managers, and creative directors for the game. Their influence touches almost every corner of Ptolus, and it’s fair to say that the Ptolus campaign influenced the development of the game as well.
Some of those players are now with Monte Cook Games. In addition to Monte himself (obviously), MCG designers Bruce R. Cordell and Sean K. Reynolds were both regular players in the years-long campaign. Other MCG staffers visited the city during the campaign’s run in tangential one-shot adventures.
The original edition of Ptolus: Monte Cook’s City by the Spire is one of the most sought-after gaming products ever. It sold out immediately following publication, and has been a high-value acquisition on the collector’s market ever since. It is currently available (in its original edition) in PDF and print-on-demand from DriveThruRPG, but we’re offering a new version to use with today’s gaming systems, and perhaps—with your help—additional extras never seen before.
I was lucky -- I got a copy of the original book on eBay, about a year or so after it came out. And it was a mammoth tome full of some serious gaming goodness.
This KS just went live today, and it's already at $175k -- out of an $80k goal.
I've not played 5E, but I'm going for this one. (I have played a couple of games in the Cypher System -- it's an interesting setup. And some of the reward levels include the main Cypher rulebook, too)

That Ptolus Kickstarter is going to break a million, I think. It's already $200k beyond its funding goal, and is closing in on $300k pledged -- and it's a day old and has a month to go. |

I'm curious what the breakdown is going to be between people going for the 5E version, and people going for the Cypher version.
Ptolus was written as a D&D setting -- I believe it was actually the playtest setting for 3E. It will obviously get a lot of support from the D&D crowd -- but the Cypher System is an interesting one and the company seems to be doing well with it. I know they've had multiple Kickstarters for Cypher stuff, and the last couple times I was at GenCon, there was a buttload of different Cypher events going on (I've done a couple of the Strange ones and a Predation one)
Doing both is a good play, though -- it'll get the interest of Cypher fans who don't do D&D, and it'll obviously have the D&D players, especially those who weren't able to get the original book. I'm willing to bet the Cypher version will have notes for porting Ptolus into Ardeyn or similar recursions.
I like that most of the pledge levels include the 3E pdf, too. That's a nice touch. |

A little under two weeks left on this one. I'm backing it.
Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters for 5th Edition
quote: Achilles. Lancelot. Robin Hood. Thor. Heroes, all.
The world is full of myths and legends which inspired those in our modern fiction and games. Iconic warriors and wizards, vampires and things from the deep, epic figures from history, these legends are universally known.
Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters delves into these paragons of literature, fable, and folklore. From Ancient Greece to Victorian England, deepest Transylvania to the High Seas, you’ll meet champions and thieves, pirates and knights, demigods and fey queens, ancient evils and urban legends. Archetypal heroes meet exemplars of villainy like Blackbeard, Rasputin, Dracula - even Lucifer, the Lord of Hell!
From Mike Myler’s popular by-request column, this 230-page epic compilation of over 100 legendary heroes, villains, and monsters brings these characters to life for the 5th Edition of the world’s oldest roleplaying game.
Plus a foreword from James M. Ward, author of the original Deities & Demigods!
What You Get!

So I've never even heard of this place, until it was listed in a recent ENWorld article on Kickstarters. I'm more than a thousand miles away, and I've not been anywhere near Oklahoma since I was still pre-teen.
But I miss going to my own FLGS... It's still open, but I'm in a higher risk category, and I've got a family to support -- so I'm not taking chances with the Covid-19.
This place, like many, has been hit hard by it. And they're selling merch to help stay afloat.
I'm backing them. And I hope to be able to go check the place out, after all this is over and done with.
Commonspace Game Cafe: Level Up!

Back in March, we stalled our remodeling and reopening operations for a full month, going into quarantine and — at the time — expecting that the worst would soon be over. Now, nine months later, we've been through wave after wave of changes and restrictions, with the future still full of uncertainty. Opening and remaining open during COVID-19 has been difficult — not just financially but ethically.
As a social venue and a cafe, we've persistently struggled with our responsibilities in the face of this epidemic. Without state-wide or city-wide shutdowns, shutting down on our own would be ineffective. Instead, we've restricted our hours and operations enough that we can feel confident that we have as much control over the environment as is possible. But those restrictions have come at a tangible cost.
Throughout the pandemic, we have been taking action. We required masks before mandates. We socially distanced our tables. We sanitized and we worked to make sure that our environment was as safe as was possible. But with COVID-19 rates now soaring, we find that we need to restrict our hours and our operations even further.
Nothing has ever been more important to us than the community. Our shop is a labor of love and friendship; those who come to visit us are our family. And like a big family, we now have a request for you:
Buy our merchandise.

Despite not having a single piercing or tattoo, I like the idea of magical tattoos... So this one, also mentioned in that same ENWorld article, caught my eye and is getting some of my gaming dollars.
They've also got a nice sample available for download.
Tome of Mystical Tattoos for 5e
quote: Hi folks! It's taken a while and a little bit of courage but I've decided to try and release a fully-illustrated compendium of all the magic tattoos I have created over my time DMing for my parties. Magic tattoos are special in that they allow you an extra level of character customization (look that much more badass) while simultaneously granting you unique and interesting abilities (be that much more badass)! Why not give it a shot, right? There will be more than 120+ illustrated, never-before-seen, and functional magic tattoos, with much more to come depending on the stretch goals we reach!
The tattoos will also all be tweaked to be more in line with the ones being introduced to us in recent 5e releases. All the tats you'll find in this book will have some amazing flavor of their own, which will set them apart from the limited selection of existing magic tattoos and the large pool of magic items already out there!
For one, all the magic tattoos you will find in this book are tailored to work in tandem with specific body parts! For example, tattoos like the Soaring Tattoo will grant you majestic inky wings when applied on your back (and only your back)! The Tome of Mystical Tattoos will also show you exactly how each beautiful tattoo would look on the optimal limbs alongside a detailed flat sketch for a clear view of all the designs. Beautiful full-page illustrations are also in the works showcasing the wide variety, utility, and power of the tattoos within this compendium.

This link doesn't work either. Maybe if you posted the ENWORLD article instead. |

Not sure why the links aren't working for you. I tested both before I posted, and I tested them just now. They work, just like every other link I've posted. |

Thanks Wooly. I'm like you and don't have a single tattoo myself. At first my thoughts were that "they just released several of these and the concept in Tasha's book", but I saw he's also providing all kinds of pictures to go along with them. Given my interest in red wizards and my interest in playing with painting 3d minis virtually.... I can play with applying tattoos as stickers virtually on someone for fun. They have a version that's in $18 in Canadian dollars which apparently is only like $15 USD... so its not horrible in cost. |

I kinda want to get a tattoo that's some Chinese characters, and when someone asks what it says, I tell them it's either a Sun Tzu or Confucius quote... But it would actually say "I can't read Chinese."
Little far to go for a joke, though.
On topic, given how the Red Wizards love their tattoos, I can totally see them going for some of these. |

So this Kickstarter wound up doing rather well. Initial ask was CA$3000, they got CA$137,587. I'll wager that the creator is now a happy camper indeed!

I did wind up backing that one, at the $1 level, so I could get a chance at the add-ons. And there was exactly one add-on I liked... I believe it was called the Disapproving Hand; it's like a Bigby's Hand spell, except it has a single upthrust finger. Guess which finger? |

Owlbear Plush
It's an owlbear plushie. I got an email on it because I've backed a couple of their other Kickstarters.
This one is not my cup of tea, but I figure some other folks might like it. |
