Ah, no, that would be Middle English.
Do you realize that English is perhaps the most-decaying language in history? The average person (of the dumb Americans, anyway! ) can barely understand Shakespeare, and most can only do it with effort. Yet none of us can read Chaucer in the original without taking a language course first. That's what, less than a two century difference?
I think this is the reason why most highly educated English-speaking peoples (especially Brits) complain about the way people muck up the language. It's so easy to do . . . . |
