I just briefly looked up in the 3.5 PHB: To me, Druid seems to be a "mundane" language. Druids are forbidden to teach it; it's not said it is impossible (which I'd expect from a magical language, at least). Thus, I see no reason why Comprehend Languages or Tongues should not work.
As to the secret language question: Well, there seem to be some mighty people trying to keep their secrets secret, hum? Druids are subject to many restrictions, including harsh ones about alignment, ans responsibilities. The secrecy of their language enables the druidic order to preserve the knowledge of druidic power among themselves. So far to the "why"-part.
It is stated that a druid who teaches the secret language to a non-druid loses all spells and druid abilities. Sounds like some ancient ritual or something like that. Fill in fluff here. ;) |
I've lost track of recent realmslore, since my campaigns are still in the 1370ies. :-) --- When talking about rules (and related stuff) I always refer to 3.5e unless explicitly noted. |
