It's part of an Anthology? Weird that WoTC would list it separately in their catalog. Nuts.

                      | Just found that was published in Dragons: World Afire,2006. But, since itīs related to Salvatoreīs "The Sellswords trilogy", the tale was an excellent addition to the book. |

                      | "If Ever They Happened Upon My Lair" is a novella about a particular dragon that arose during Zhengyi's reign of terror in the Bloodstone Lands.
It was first packaged as part of the deluxe coffee-table-style anthology <Dragons: Worlds Afire>, JUN-2006.

Then, it was re-packaged as part of the paperback RAS anthology <The Legend of Drizzt Anthology: The Collected Stories>, FEB-2011.

Apparently, WOTC is releasing the novella as a stand-alone e-book product in SEP-2012. The link on that WOTC page which is supposed to provide retailers doesn't seem to be working yet.

Nope. There was at least one dracolich before Sammy came along. He was made by Talos.

Yup, that one. I don't recall his name, but I do recall seeing in one of the versions of the Grand History that his creation was listed centuries before Sammy created his first dracolich.

Besides, I rarely count the gods in terms of creating whatever firsts, because, in the first place, they're capable of almost everything. |

Given the intelligence of dragons, and how long they've been around, I'd actually be quite surprised if none had ever found their own way to being a dracolich. I'm pretty sure that we don't have any canon references to who the very first dracolich in the Realms was. Sammy may have found a good method and been rather influential in making dracoliches, but I'd expect that there had already been dracoliches in the Realms thousands of years before.

                      | Yeah I snatched up the Drizzt anthology and I thought it was an amazing story. Kind of makes me wish that RA would write a trilogy about the Bloodstone saga with Zhengyi's rise and how Gareth Dragonsbane and company defeated him.
I would pay good money for that story.
