Does anyone know if this novel anthology has been released? I know it was on the release schedule quite a few months back (March\April) but I havent heard any mention of it or any reviews and havent seen it in any stores yet (although that doesnt mean anything, what with WotC's abysmal distribution to the UK!)

How do you rate it? Are all the stories based on ancient Netheril or are they the activities of the Shades since their return? (i.e. are they short stories based on happenings that occur whilst the events of the Return of the Archmages trilogy is going on?

Well, the book is pretty up and down, got a few good stories and a lot of bad ones.
The stories take place in old Netheril and forward to the current timeline. They all have something to do with shade and it's activities.
Not the FR book i would buy if I was short on cash.
But I'm a collecter so I buy them all :)

As if Salvatore needed even more praise, I offer the following:

I really enjoyed the short piece starring Jarlaxle and Entreri. Particularly the ending - quite the little think piece on Entreri's future....

It's rare to see a short story that actualy changes the course of things for previously-established characters...I think it will be interesting to see if this will develop into a permanent change for the beleaguered assassin....

Yes--supposedly after the Hunter's Blade Trilogy
will be an Artemis and Jarlaxle trilogy.

yes i believe, although i cant confirm or find the source anymore i believe i remember Salvatore himself saying there would indeed be a Entreri/jaralaxle trilogy after Hunters Blades.

I agree with Arion Elenim the best short story was that of R.A. Salvatores, with Jarlaxle and Enteri. I also agree with Solmyr about not buying it unless your a collecter.

Having just finished reading the entire series (4 books), I'll revive this little thread again.

Oh before I make my post, did anyone else notice that the cover art of the four books together form one large picture...

Realms of Shadow takes place in various time periods, though most are set before the Return of the Archwizards series. The entire series is a good read, I read the books one after the other last weekend, and it was difficult to stop reading. Compared to the Avatar Trilogy, this series is much better written, more in the style of the Realms (one doesn't have so much the idea of following the exploits of a adventuring party).

After reading the series, I came to the conclusion that I had to modify the timeline in my Twilight Dawn PbeM game. That game is set in middle/late 1372, based initially on the FRCS book which makes 1372 the current year. However the Archwizards series takes place in the last month of 1371 and the first half of 1372. There are some major side effects to the story which do not return in the FRCS (or aren't highlighted as such). Examples are flooding and adverse weather in the North, drought in Cormyr... These side effects ought to influence the Realms as a whole for a couple of (Realms) years to come, and are somewhat comparable to the chaos and anarchy after the ToT...
