I just thought I'd post a link to this little snippet of Realmslore, written by Ed of the Greenwood.
Here's a brief introduction taken from the FR website -
quote: The local lore in Faerūn varies from city to city, town to town, and region to region. Find out more of the details of everyday living in selected areas of Faerūn. From taxes to broadsheets to matchmakers to stores, Realmslore can help you add more depth to your campaign! This week, read about the beginnings of Dawntree, a possible new haven for elves.
Let's hear your thoughts on this (hopefully) new era of Elven civilisation in the Realms...

I figure that if the Elves cast off their weaker gods and bow down to the glory that is Lolth, then this new elvish kingdom has hope, as Lolth's Drow seem to be the only ones who are able to hold onto an age old empire... (this of course is now in question due to the event's of WotSQ series). Perhaps it is time for the Elves to show the short-lived humans and filthy dwarves what a true empire can be.... Which brings the question, what makes a lasting Empire? |

Actually I think it would be an interesting divergence from the typical 'Elven-Retreat' theme that we have seen through so much FR material over the past few years.
What I would like to see is a growing, healthly, Elven presence reborn in the modern day of (1373 DR) Faerun...something that again sets the standard, and takes FR away from the typical themes and models that are sterotypical of the Elven race as a whole.

Whilst id love to see more elven settlements and lands on Faerun, this doesnt sound very exciting from the first article...although its obviously going to develop into much more... Ill hold my views for now on what is currently just some whipper-snapper ramblings in Waterdeeps cemetary
BTW, what ever became of the elven return with the Tree of Life? |

I'm very interested in seeing an increased elven presence in the Realms, and one which does not mirror that of old Cormanthyr or (more recently) Evereska. Dawntree is not merely intriguing, but encouraging, and I'd like to see just how much young, motivated elves can accomplish in just a few years of striving with the very human Realms around them. |

Actually Rad, I had been thinking about that as well. From everything I have read so far...not very much. But the search continues for more information. Maybe Faraer has something.

Part 2 of the Dawntree is out today - not that much development really, more to do with the "founding members" origins.
Im intrigued by this idea, whilst it just seems a heroic dream of a bunch of elves, im sure Ed Greenwood wouldnt be writing all this if it wasnt going to come to something

Indeed it does .

It's with situations like this, that I like to think about one of my favorite quotes from the always inspirational, Professor Charles Xavier (the comic version)..."Any dream worth having, is a dream worth fighting for"...
Whether anything does actually become of this recent increase in elven activity is of itself, less important than the fact that at last, the typical elven sterotype mold seems to be cracking...

I think you're going to be disappointed, Rad. "Big" stuff like this (a potential new realm) is going to be just a proposal (Ed gives you the tools, you as DM decide if Dawntree ever "happens" in your world). I know Ed has detailed some places not yet published by TSR and then Wizards, in later columns. But new potentially-RSE stuff is going to be left to you. I'm having dinner with Ed and his wife tonight, so I'll ask if he's got some sneaky plans for Dawntree. But I doubt it. :} |

Hey, for once they are not killing elves off and blowing their stuff up! It is a change in the winds? One cna only hope so. I like the idea of a new elven kingdom and bringing them back to the mainland and out of the Retreat, at least in part. It will be interesting to see where this is going. And, just because they are founding a new elven realm does not make it RSE; founding akingdom is a small affair, to begin with. It is not like they are gonna grow into Myth Drannor overnight...although that would be kinda funny. Still, I think that where ever the Tree of Life ends up is where the first big new elven settlement will form, and it will liekly attract far more elves. |

Part 4 is out today - I quite enjoyed this one. Sounds more promising too, I hope something DOES actually come of it all. |

Indeed. Although even if nothing happens regarding this change in the immediate future, I've already got a few 'notes and source material' on the burner ready for expansion.
