Since there aren't many 3.x FR modules out there (in fact I can only think of one, and it's in the CS) can anybody name a good, short module that is easily dropped into the setting?

Something like the Sunless Citadel would be perfect, but I've already run that :p

There are a couple of free adventures from paizo that could likely be easily adapted to the Realms. If you use the Pathfinder rules, or don't mind reverse engineering them for 3.5e, Master of the Fallen Fortress is a 1st level short adventure. A couple 3.5e designed adventures for free include the 1st level Hollow's Last Hope or 5th level Revenge of the Kobold King.

Those are just free adventures from Paizo, if you're looking to purchase adventures there are many good adventures. Most of the opening adventures in any Paizo Adventure Path are excellent, irregardless of how the path itself ends up, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of them.

There are still the free adventures and vicious venues articles on the Wizards website. I have used some of these myself and are easily converted to the Realms

Any Dungeon Mag module that's not specifically for a setting is easily adaptable to be put into Realms. There even are modules for Realms, but I don't think there's any at first level. I'll search.
EDIT: Okay. There's "Within the Circe" in Dungeon #130.
"Forest of Blood" in #103. It's 5th level, but scalable to 1st.

In the Original Adventures link Mumadar Ibn Huzal posted, there's an adventure called The Burning Plage (I think) that's 1st level. It's a pretty fun adventure that can really be placed in any area of Faerūn where you'd find a mine. I used the adventure in Glister, a small mining town north of the Moonsea in the Galena Mountains. This sort of started the path of them going from there to Melvaunt and onto the Sons of Gruumsh adventure too.

You could also place The Burning Plage adventure:
  • Sword Coast: Mines of Naskel

  • The North: Mithral Hall or Mirabar

  • Cormyr: Suzail or even use Duvark's Pass somewhere in the Stormhorns or Thunderpeaks

  • These are just a few places (town and cities) near mountain ranges that might have mines.
