It appears that perhaps WoTC is going to gauge the real interest in "old school" gaming, as they are re-printing the 1st edition PHB, DMG, and MM as "collectables" due out THIS April. Only a guess here, but I am thinking if sales go over very well, we may be seeing part of D&D Next already in action.

Oh I really really hope not. Not that I have anything against people playing older editions, far from it. I think it's awesome that they're reprinting all the stuff for sales and allowing people who enjoyed that game to buy it in a better condition. Yet, I hope that's where it stops when looking at mechanics for 5E. In reading a few stuff from 1st Edition, I don't think I could get behind those aspects with the next iteration of D&D.

Wouldn't that be awesome, plus of course as soon as it is printed it becomes the de facto new edition of D&D as it is the latest pinting, which makes the 4E players old school by default?

Cheers

So saith Ed. I've never said he was sane, have I?
Gods, all this writing and he's running a constant fantasy version of Coronation Street in his head, too. .

Not only that, but it will say Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, thus appealing to those who want an improved game over "basic" Dungeons and Dragons, just like the original.

Agreed. So as not to clutter up these halls, I should like to direct all commentary over to this scroll:
