Calling upon help from our cartographers.

Does anyone have a collection simple icons for various world-map cartography uses that they would be willing to share?

Examples of what I'm looking for are symbols for fords, cities/towns, keeps, towers, ruins, etc. Simple symbols with small but distinct shapes in monochrome are preferred.

The technology can be simple. I'm not an Adobe Illustrator expert and just looking for symbols that I can drop onto map sections for my own use while creating my campaign. I can even make the Paint program work for what I'm trying to do.

Thanks in advance,
Wolfhound

I built a lot of my own, which I no longer have. Note that MY symbol for fort/castle was latter adopted and was used on official maps.

If you are good with Photoshop and Illustrator, its a fairly simple thing to find ones you like and make symbols from them (Illustrator saves you hours of work!) It took me awhile to get the hang of it, but once I had the sequence down it took me under a minute to steal any symbol I wanted and turn it into a vector-graphic (don't ask me how now - I am going to have to re-learn it all soon).

I would suggest looking at all the great stuff over at The Cartographer's Guild - they have an entire sub-forum with sets of textures, brushes, and symbols for you to use. They are also a great bunch of (edition/game-independent) folks who answer any question you might have - its an incredible resource. Some of those guys have forgotten more then I could ever hope to learn.

The great Markus Tay (hint, hint) once uploaded a set of many symbols to his deviantart page. I ripped them (off background, rending it transparent) to detail some of his blanko-maps for my campaign(s). If I just search severe enough and, of course, with Markus' permission, I can surely find and share them with anyone wanting some…

They're no vector-graphics, though…

I've lost track of recent realmslore, since my campaigns are still in the 1370ies. :-)

Heh...Anything is better than my current non-digital age colored pencil and sloppy handwriting or the most low-tech thing available - the old reliable paint program - to try and digitize my maps.

Unfortunately, I don't have Photoshop or Illustrator (but can probably procure them by use of a WISH spell - panic ensues). Regardless, I still need to learn how to use them. While I may be in a tech-heavy field IRL, computer graphics/digital art is not it, nor is it my forte.

Vector-what? In my field a vector is something you fly to intercept the target.... *grin*

Thanks & Good Hunting!
