Greetings, members of Candlekeep. My name is Ehentalix. I have enjoyed Forgotten Realms for some time now, starting with Salvatore's Icewind Dale, and moving from there to many others, including the Elminster Saga.
Icome asking a favour: I wish to contact Mr. Greenwood and share with him the first chapter of a novel I am writing, so as to get his oppinion. Does anyone know how I could contact him?

Welcome to Candlekeep!
Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!
As for the rest of us, we are friendly, mostly harmless, and occasionally strange... Enjoy your stay!
Now, as for your question... Ed can be contacted thru the Questions for Ed Greenwood thread. Ed does not post here directly; one of his long-time players, the lovely Lady Hooded One, posts here and conveys things back and forth between Ed. We don't know which NPC the Lady played; this is something she does not answer, for her own reasons. Out of respect for her, we don't even speculate on this.
As for getting him to read something... Don't be surprised if he declines to do so. I'm not speaking for Ed, obviously -- I'm just going with past experience on these forums. A lot of professional authors make a point of not reading anything not formally published (or in the process of being formally published). It's not an uncommon request for aspiring writers to ask a respected pro to read their work, but a professional could quickly find himself so busy reading the work of his fans that said professional has no time for his own writing. And, Ed, in particular, keeps an insanely busy schedule already.
Also, many authors avoid unpublished material because if they don't read it, they don't have to worry about later accusations of plagiarism. I'm not saying that's your intent, but it's a known fact that there are some unscrupulous sorts out there.
No one is going to stop you from asking Ed to read your work -- I'm just making sure you understand that he may decline, or he may not have the time to do so for many months or even years. |

I am sure Ed (and WoTC for that matter)gets manuscript submissions all of the time; so the competition must be pretty steep. Good luck!
Who among us has not, at one point or another, wanted to write and publish our own Realms book? :) |

Perhaps it would be best to ask next time he does a book talk in my area, if he has the time. I understand that he's a very busy man, and that it is unlikely he would read my work, but I thought I'd ask anyways.
For the record, though, I would like to state that my novel is not Forgotten Realms, which is why I haven't shared it here. |
