I remember reading somewhere in some source about it. It's described as a town of either gnomes or halflings, I'm not sure. It is remote in the woods, and is constantly cloaked in a mist to outsiders, and I think they got lost in it. Can anyone help me out?

Well Luiren is a country of almost a million halflings. The Purple Hills in Tethyr have several exclusively halfling towns. Secomber in the north, east of Daggerford is almost 50% halflings.
Any of those? |

Are you possibly thinking of the Trail of Mists? Or Fryndul, an illusion-protected gnome village in the Shar-reach (Dragon #269)? |

Do you remember any other defining characteristics of the village? Was it perhaps a published module, or was it a dragon/dungeon article?
Were the gnomes (or halflings) there known for anything in particular, were there any personalities you remember?
Were there any ruins or special things nearby? Was it in a valley, or were there hills?
Any potential clues might help...

The only place I can think of is Lantan, but that doesn't fit with your locations. |

It sounds alot like Mount Nevermember but that wasn't Forgotten Realms, it was Dragonlance. Had all kinds of fast talking gnomes and weird, cooky inventions. |

My memory, while no longer perfect, is pretty darn good, and 'locales' are my specialty, and I can't say that's ringing any bells - sorry.
It sounds similar to a couple of places in Sunset Vale, but not exactly (the whole 'cloaked in mists' thing is unfamiliar).
There was also a homebrew settlement in some article here at the 'Keep, just inside the border of the High Forest (SW corner, IIRC), but I think that was a hidden, multi-racial settlement and not 'small person' specific. |

Could it be somewhere in the Moonshae Isles? I know that there are communities of Halflings there.
That's all I can think of at the moment. |

Pretty much. The Sunrise Mountain range marks the western border of the Endless Waste with Thay. |

my bet is Trail of Mists beneath the High Forest...which does have outlets in Waterdeep, Lantan and Songfarla which is perpetually covered in illusions and mists

Is it the gnome enclave in the Daggerdale forest (Spiderhaunt?)where the gnomes have learned to co-exist and survive amongst monstrous spiders?
I'm away from books ... so that's the most I can go on right now. |

i have an option for everything but your cloaking mists (unless there is something about the "Sleepy" in Sleepy Wood that helps hide the community):
there is a halfling community called Waukeshire "of several hundred" who live in the Sleepy Woods inside Bloodstone Pass
they have a tunnel network for defensive purposes under their town that each dwelling has an entrance to |
