Nah he is just the classical skilled kid who met with the incorrect person... Like Sarevok or Gareth himself...

Aye.

Though, now that I think about it, Mirt would probably resemble something of a "stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder."

I do agree that Mirt seems to be the sort of guy who'd sit with his back to the wall and be able to quickdraw a wand under the table when pressed into unpleasant transactions.

Khelben, even before the final events
of Blackstaff, wouldn't you say he'd
look sadly at a person who knows that all he's
sacrificed, suffered, and experienced and said
thank you to him for all he's done to the realms?

I'm not sure we'll still be alive to see that day. For all we know, WotC might make that 500 years in the Realms 50 decades in RL time.

Isn't that a BIT off-topic?! LOL!!! I jest. I'd love to give Liriel a hug, cause she deserves it.

She really does.

I'd hug Jarlaxle, except he might take it... well, actually, I don't think the way he'd take it might be the wrong way at all.

Seconded! LOL!! And yes, I'd say loosing one's man TWICE certainly qualifies one for a BIG hug.

He's a barbarian type, so he only gets a hug if someone makes him bathe first.
These rough tough barbarians from wild and untamed lands may be manly, but they also tend to be a mite smelly...

There are lakes in Rashemen. Might as well bathe there while you hug him. But if you're a barbarian yourself, you wouldn't mind---it's just like smelling your own.

It's well known that real barbarians bathe in the coldest glacial lakes atop the highest mountaintops every winter, whether they need it or not. They also live in hygienic environments like deserts and jungles, where not a speck of dirt can ever be easily found, at least not without digging through tons of sand and green stuff.

They also eat lots of meat and garlic. Keeps the elves and vampires away. When forced to endure "civilized" cooking, a barbarian will often substitute lethally potent fermentations instead, still happily keeping those pesky elves away and accepting that they must simply kill more vampires as part of the tradeoff (easier with flammable liquid, too). Generously spilling pouring quantities of excess alcohol onto all their gear helps repel troublesome fleas, lice, mosquitos, and merchants. Some barbarians attempt to carefully cultivate poisonous breathe weapons with reportedly mixed results.

Experienced barbarians usually end up changing their loin cloth with surprising frequency - sometimes as often as once every two or three campaigns! - having learned that spending a few silvers on a new boiled leather wrap (or taking a serviceable one off a fallen foe) can be less costly than having armored tassets, faulds, chausses, and leggings pinch or chafe their manliness in a rather discomfiting manner while running, on horseback, or manning the oars. What goes in the Horde stays in the Horde.

So I don't know where you all get this ridiculous notion that barbarians are smelly. Although I do admit that those barbarians forced to subsist on whatever vermin (rats, vultures, and kender) they can catch do tend to have distinctively unpleasant odour, as do the unpopular ones who spend too much time around smelly wizards.

I suppose the only barbarians who don't smell---or who do but not as bad as others---are those who dwell in the lands forever covered by the ruthless, bitter cold of winter ice.

We are again facing the smelling problem, and besides, I wouldn't like to hug someone and end with a chunk of his rotting flesh in my jacket you know...
