I've skimmed through the threads posted and am wondering if anybody could suggest some books to me based on my pre-existing tastes, since I'm not exactly a newcomer to the books but consider myself a novice when it comes to the Realms and their various intrigues...

I haven't been reading FR books for too terribly long but some of the titles under my belt are: The Erevis Cale Trilogy, RotA Trilogy, Last Mythal Series, Haunted Lands Trilogy, all of the Waterdeep books, Twilight War Series, The Annotated Elminster, Elminster's Daughter, Elminster Must Die, Bury Elminster Deep, The Cleric Quintet, Darkvision, and Blackstaff (not to be confused with Blackstaff Tower, please). I may be forgetting some, but that happens.

I've just started the Empyrean Odyssey books, with plans to read the Abolethic Sovereignty books next. I also have book three of the Avatar Trilogy along with The Trial of Cyric, and intend on getting books one and two. I have book one of The Year of the Rogue Dragons and will be buying books two and three. Last, I plan on reading The Brotherhood of the Griffon series.

Out of these books, I've loved most every one. For reasons relating purely to personal taste and saying nothing about the writers of said books, the only exclusions are City of the Dead from the Waterdeep books, Elminster's Daughter, and the Haunted Lands Trilogy. (This last may be because they were the very first FR books I read and had not quite developed a taste for the Realms yet...) My particular favorites were all of the books with Erevis Cale in them, The Archwizards Series, and the other Elminster books.

So, I know what I like but I have no idea how to go about finding more titles I might enjoy. Powerful magics, good guys, the gods among mortals, sinister plots... these are my favorites. The undead, rogues, demons, merry bands of adventurers without a single wizard or sorcerer in sight... not as much.

I do feel like I'm asking a lot, but if you have any suggestions at all I would really, really appreciate it!!!

Bearing in mind what you're looking for, I recommend:

The Netheril Trilogy, aka The Arcane Age trilogy by Clayton Emery. Excellent companion to RotA.

The Shield of Weeping Ghosts by James P. Davis

The Simbul's Gift by Lynn Abbey

Red Magic by Jean Rabe

Starlight and Shadows trilogy by Elaine Cunningham

Counselors and Kings trilogy by Elaine Cunningham

If you like short stories showcasing "powerful magics, good guys, and sinister plots," then I also recommend the anthologies Realms of Shadow, Realms of War, Realms of Magic, and Realms of the Arcane.

Every beginning has an end.

Thank you Dennis!! A few of these sounds really great, and all were entirely unknown to me until now. I think I will start with The Netheril Trilogy, but I'm sure I'll have them all knocked out as soon as I can find them :)

You're welcome, lolotters. If you like the Netherese, I guess you'd also like the Counselors and Kings trilogy, which feature their descendants, the Halruaans.

Every beginning has an end.

If you enjoyed the Erevis Cale Trilogy and The Twilight War Trilogy by Paul S. Kemp then I would strongly recommend The Sembia Series. This is the series that first introduced Erevis Cale to the Realms and feature the Uskevren family that you would have discovered in the two trilogies by Paul S. Kemp. The first book, The Halls of Stormweather, is an anthology that introduces the members of the family (including an Erevis Cale short story). The second book, Shadow's Witness, is an Erevis Cale solo story. If you enjoy these you should consider the rest of the series.

As you enjoyed The Last Mythal Series by Richard Baker you might enjoy another of his Series, Blades of the Moonsea, which starts in The Swordmage.

You might also consider The Chosen of Nendawen Series by Mark Sehestedt, which starts in the book The Fall of Highwatch.

Beyond that I would consider checking out the Forgotten Realms Omnibus Editions as they offer complete trilogies at an affordable price.

Hope this helps. Let me know what you think of the books so that i can offer further suggestions in the future.

Some classics I really enjoyed were: The Avatar Trilogy, Dark Elf Trilogy, Icewind Dale Trilogy, The Harpers
