What is in your opinion the best issue of Dragon? One for every edition
And why?

My faves remain 163 and 159. 163 was the first issue I bought, in the long since closed and not-so-friendly comic/gaming store called Stargate. I bought 159 from the same store, a few months later, and loved it because of all the wondermous Spelljammer content. |

I don't have a partciular favourite.
Really, any issue containing lore from the "Realms Greats" like Ed, Steven, Eric, Elaine, or George, all rank pretty highly in my listing of favourite issues of DRAGON Magazine.

Only if you're a fan of githyanki. And I'm not. |

I don't remember the older ones, started buying at number 287.
1. 352 - cause of the Bas-Lag Campaign article and some cool FR undead monsters
Honorable mentions. I have about 15 at the game at all times, the rest are scattered.
2. 353 cause it's most usable, Malcanthet, FR outsiders, best class acts, Keepers, demiplanes, archomentals ... 3. 357 - Demogorgon article, Wells of Darkness, titans, arcane plants, companions 4. 338 - Boccob article, magic schools and staffs, spellweavers 5. 349 - Hordelands article, Dagon, psionic feats, Ogre Mage ecology 6. 337 - Zuggtmoy, illithid minions, Lords of Dust, face paints, spell grafts, Shadar-kai 7. 334 - Crimmor, monsters, alchemist and other items, krakens 8. 290 - Slavic campaign world, death knights of Oerth 9. 340 - small constructs, inevitables, Baphomet 10. 350 - magical workshops and pollution, Wee Jas article, clockwork horrors, totemist soulmelds
Also I keep 255 (life-shapes), 313, 309, 355, 327, 358, 288. There was a different top ten list in the last magazine.

Always a good idea to have this one on hand when tackling the "Bas-Lag" books for the first time. For the very-weird creatures and locales...

Dragon no. 228 is the most notable in the 2nd edition, if you want the Elminster campaign |

I do not really have a favourite issue of Dragon Magazine - I tend to think more in terms of favourite articles. But If I had to have a shot at it, I'd say #172 (Schend and Greenwood on Skullport, but also one of the most valued articles in the Princess Ark series) and the linked #176 (the drow of the Promenade). Also rather splendid: #75 and #76, with Big Ed's articles on the Nine Hells. |

One of my favorites, plus the first one I ever bought. |
"These things also I have observed: that knowledge of our world is to be nurtured like a precious flower, for it is the most precious thing we have. Wherefore guard the word written and heed words unwritten and set them down ere they fade . . . Learn then, well, the arts of reading, writing, and listening true, and they will lead you to the greatest art of all: understanding." Alaundo of Candlekeep |

it would be the first place, if the articles were longer and the archomentals are not as interesting as other planar lords |
