I know this has come up before, so I apologize for potentially beating a long-dead horse, but for the life of me I can't remember!

Does Elminster have true Spellfire?

I know he was never "written up" as having such, but I recall after reading certain novels he was included in that it very much seemed that he has both Silverfire and Spellfire (I think Elminster in Hell was the biggest offender here if I'm remembering right.)

"Come looking for me, and I will blast you to dust, and then lay waste to all your descendants, ancestors, and the realm you came from, every last tree and stone of it. Why? Well, it's what I usually do."

'So Saith Ed' [2006]:- "Elminster figured out how to manipulate the Weave to call forth spellfire. Any of the Chosen who became sufficiently attuned to the Weave (by using it for centuries), and took the time to experiment and study, could theoretically duplicate what Elminster did, and end up with spellfire too."

And, also, from Ed's 'Shandril of Spellfire, And Why I Decided Not To Destroy Her' article on the Wizards site:- "So hearken, and learn of spellfire and the lass who most recently bore it. Learn not as we of the Chosen command it, which is as something bound up in Mystra's silver fire and feared even by us for its potential for undoing and going wild and wreaking havoc, but as wild and willful as anything a proud youngling can hurl at the world to make that world take notice and grant respect."

Finally, Ed's Crown of Fire confirms that Elminster can use it by the grace of Mystra, but using it "taxes him over much."

In Volo's Guide to All Things Magical, it states that El and Khelben both can weild Spellfire but not by their choice, Mystra gave it to them. All of the Chosen can weild Spellfire like abilities, as well. I'd bet the Simbul is capable, if any of the sisters are, as well.

As I recall, one of Ed's replies on Candlekeep in the past mentioned that one other Chosen (as of 1368 DR or thereabouts) had gone to the trouble of working out spellfire. If Volo's Guide is accurate, then Khelben would be that other one.
