I know there used to be such a game, but it is long defunct.
I've found a tutorial to creating a roguelike and I'd maybe try my hand at it now that I've got hols.
Or maybe you know such a game/you'd try creating it? Zi

If you mean 'what is a roguelike' then see this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike. Generally any computer can run them since they have little in the matter of graphics. They are often based on a simplified version of AD&D rules.
I don't know much in the way of programming but I've seen such games done within a week.
---------------------------------
What I'd want to see (or I'd try to do if there's no such game): - AD&D simplified rules, at most rules like in Incursion (simplified 3.0 e SRD) - random level generator (as in Angband, you get a random level every time you exit/enter the level) - no surface level as in Angband - no endgame (you don't search for an Amulet of Yendor or anything) - score based on how deep you went before you died - Upperdark, Middledark and Lowerdark (say, 30 levels each) - races available: drow, duergar, svirfnebli, human, dwarf, grimlock - classes available: fighter, mage, cleric, rogue (maybe some more) - multiclassing if possible - maybe templates (half-fiend, vampire) - darkvision would be very important - monsters flocking to a player holding a light source - a sort of a outpost (shop, healing, etc.) could be on random levels but not in the Lowerdark - typical Underdark monsters: rats, scorpions, spiders (in different sizes); rothe, dragons of different sizes and types, cloakers, hook horrors, pedipalpi, vermin, mind flayers, beholders, kuo-toan, basilisks, draegloths, vampires, myrlochars, yochlols, durzagons, cave fishers, slime, molds, fungi (including shrieker), orcs, goblins, kobolds, quaggoths, trogs, aboleths, chwidenchas, tanarruks - patrols of drow/duergar/svirfnebli near outposts - traps of different varieties - being able to eat corpses like in NetHack
------------------ Does such a game exist or do I have to try my hand at making one?

I've never heard of an Underdark Rogue version. Must have been a fan made game.
I've started learning programming a similar game in C++. Depending on what programming language you want to use I might help you a bit, but I have to admit programming isn't really my cup of tea. |

I've seen a few more tutorials, so far nothing in C++.
I can see that it is possible to make a basic thing in 7 days (as someone did) having a complete tutorial.
Or maybe we could try making an Angband variant? That way most of the work would be cut out for us... dungeon generating for example. We'd just have to code in the new races and new monsters and remove some that do not exist in the Underdark.
EDIT: I'm wondering if we can edit monster.txt (contains information about monsters), p_race.txt (playable races) safely. We'd have to somehow remove Sauron, Thuringwethil, Morgoth and all other named monsters. If it could be done, we'd just have to edit those three files to have our Underdark variant.
EDIT 2: I found Angband forums, maybe I'd post there and people would help. What do you think?
EDIT 3: What language is NetHack written in? Is it C++, as in Angband? |

I can try finding a tutorial for C++...
How much do you have done?
I have found a C++ source code for a roguelike game. I forgot where I got it from though. I can send you the zip file if you like.
I've also done a bit of scripting for NWN1 back in the day. Little things like spawning a NPC after destroying a barrel and stuff like that.
The game I'm working on now is a 10 by 10 square grid. You start in a square and you have to find the exit square, the other squares all have effects like traps or give clues. So far I don't have much yet; an empty grid and the basic movement. |

Could you send my a copy also, Tyrant, if it's not too much trouble? |

I think I'll make my roguelike an Angband variant. I'll head over to the Angband forums and ask around a bit. Changing monster and player races is the easiest, as I mentioned.
EDIT: I received help. I'll register at the Angband forums and keep you updated about the progress.
I'm away next week, so I'll really start working after I return. Now I'll just ask around on Angband forums. |

I've already done the races.
I asked around a bit. What I'd need help with is incorporating some features of other variants into what will probably be a fork of NPPAngband.
Namely, the corpse eating bit from ZPlus for all characters, a form of innate abilities (possibly from ZPlus)...
Oh, just have a look at this thread: http://angband.oook.cz/forum/showthread.php?t=4630.

There are already official d20 workings for something like this, which I've tweaked and tinkered with in the past to craft my own Computer Programmer PrC [which, interestingly enough, is attributed to the character described in my profile here at Candlekeep]. You might want to draw from previous examples to get some ideas about what you build into the class in terms of abilities and functions. |

There exists a d20 roguelike (note, the rules are not 100% faithful to SRD) - link: http://www.incursion-roguelike.net/
I've had some more experience with programming after 2011 (modding Baldur's Gate and Naev) so I picked T-Engine (the one ToME is based on).
I've started programming the game today. I've got the chargen front mostly done, but I got stuck on getting the equipment to work.
Once I have the basics working, adding NPCs, items or talents (feats) is pretty much a breeze. The ToME community is very helpful, too, so I think I'll manage to achieve at least some of my goals.

LOL. Many of my projects are partially-completed, too. That's one of those I really want to see finished. |

Okay, the project is underway!
And you can actually play the alpha builds.
Check out https://github.com/Zireael07/Underdark (you'll need to click the ZIP button, rename the .zip to .tome, put it in modules folder of your T-Engine) |

If you want to know how development is going, check out http://zireael07.wordpress.com/english/underdark-roguelike-wip-development/.
I also made a page on RogueBasin.
So glad this has gotten off.
EDIT: Now you can enjoy working feat select and lots of weapons and even faerzress!
EDIT 2: In preparation for incoming beta release, I've included the OGL and made a few edits.
Is 'faerzress' considered Project Identity or not? |

There have been three beta releases since I last posted here.
You can find them on Git or at te4.org.
Any comments?
EDIT:
The Veins of the Earth now has a page at ModDB: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-veins-of-the-earth

We've reached beta 2.5, you can grab it from github or from ModDB.

We're at beta 3.25 (0.7.1) and development is still continuing in spite of me being back to university.
I codenamed this release "Christmas Tree" :) |

I just downloaded the .7.1 but haven't had a lot of time to play with it or leave feedback. I'll try with .8.0 though! |
