My "perfect party" would be:
Human Ranger (melee, with high con)
Sun Elf Wizard (sword & spell type, high int)
Human Fighter (sword & shield)
Tiefling Rogue (finesse fighter, manipulator, thief)
Half-moon elf Cleric of Solonor Thelandira (War & Elf domains) (archer) high wis eventually taking Zen archery to make the most of the high wis
This is assuming that LA/ECL is not a factor in starting at level 1.
I like groups that move fast and travel light, but that's just me.

| a Tiefling wouldn't be breaking the bank anyway. he's only a +1 ECL, and that will quickly level out. they'll probably all reach level/ECl 3 at the exact same time. |

I have two types of ideal parties, a dark one and a light one:
Dark:
Human or Eladrin Necromancer
Shade Assasin
Human or Vryloka Vampire (or Vampire Necromancer multiclass)
Revenant Dark Power Cleric (introduced in HoS)
Vryloka Black Guard Paladin
Tiefling Gloom Pact Warlock
Light:
Eladrin Cosmic Sorcerer or Wizard
Elf Ranger
Halfling Rogue
Human Fighter
Deva Cleric
