Figured this might be the best section for this slightly off topic...
Has anyone run a D&D game based on the ancient astronaut theory? That the gods/devils/demons/etc could be aliens from an extra-terrestrial (from another planet) or ultra-terrestrial (aliens from another dimension)?
That dragons and other monsters could be E.T., U.T., or genetic experiments? That magic (Arcane, Divine, Primal) could be energy from extra-dimensional sources, advance sciences or even more selective psionic powers? Artifacts/magic items could be advance scientific devices?
Any one tried this or would want to try this?

I've seen the theory once or twice, in Spelljammer material, that a lot of life on various worlds is there because of an ancient race that for their own reasons scattered the races and critters there. Kind of a cross between ancient aliens and panspermia.
Also in Spelljammer material, there's a world simply called Below, that the Arcane keep stocked with all sorts of critters, to protect their secret base and also for guided tours. It's an Ed article, and it says that PCs can encounter anything from modern soldiers to cartoon characters there.
Numeria, on Golarion, is a land dominated by the wreckage of an ancient starship. They've got all sorts of high-science devices there, including some that mimic magical devices but are purely weird technology. |

There is, also, in the Realmslore, an incredibly ancient and evil god -- whose name has long been forgotten -- and is now simply referred to as "the Dragonking." Speculatory tidbits scattered by Eric Boyd throughout the lore suggests that this deity came from the Far Realm... making brief incursions into the Prime Material of the Realms via the powerful artifact known as The Dragonking's Eye. |

There is also, of course, all the most ancient D&D stuff relating to the supertechnology Blackmoor civilization. Although written for the earliest 1E Greyhawk setting (and TSR's earliest Gamma World RPG) and only obliquely referenced in scattered bits of subsequent Realmslore ... it also seems to have been entirely forgotten by 3E.
Spelljammer lore claims that elves, and perhaps orcs and men and even dragons, arrived to the Realms from other worlds. Early Realms timeline sometimes agree with these claims. |
