in the case of a warforged (or other less-than-normal-sleeper)such as an elf, can they Pen a scroll (considered a full 8 hour activity) AND rest (also 8 hours) to memorize spells both in the same day. In the case of the warforged can he (as a non-sleeper) pen a scroll at the campsite while the human sleep and still pray for his spells (hes a cleric) come sunrise?

I would say yes, doing a scroll either is copy or using memorized spell. The 8 hour rest rule applies to be able to cast and even have eight hours free time to eat and drink. The only thing that might occur would be disruption of rest or other event those other eight hours. |

Ker repeated this without understanding. "After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first." You have to have that 8 hours of rest, whether it's Reverie, sleep, staring off into space, meditating, whatever. |

Im pretty sure by the rules you can do that, as long as the base cost is less than 1,000 gp and as a DM i'd rule it as such. But the item creation rules in 3/3.5e have always been wonky. I'd also say thats all u'd be doing with ur time that day. |
