Have you read the manga? Yes, he can be annoying, but that's part of his "charm." I like Zeref, too. As for Erza, I don't know, right from the start, I couldn't really care for her, even during that Tower of Heaven arc when she and Jellal had prominent roles.
Yeah I have . I got it when it first came out and have tried to keep up with it ever since. I agree with you about Natsu , at the end of the day he is an entertaining main character. As for Erza she is a bit of a one dimensional character its true but she provides an interesting counterpoint to all the crazies running around in the Fairy tail guild.
I find her funny at times. She's almost always serious, but she has some weird obsessions, like doing a 'picnic' (she was so angry like a provoked lion when a band of thieves ate their picnic food, and beat them nigh to death), and wearing those ridiculous tights from the Jiggly Butt Gang.
Cant make an anime without someone from the jiggly butts gang nowadays. Union rules. |

And since work is where I've been doing 90% of my reading this past year, combined with really not enjoying the series as much as I expected to, further distractions like the two Kemp SW novels and realms of the dead, it's just taking forever. I want to be done before breaking into The Blade Itself, on the quite probably chance I enjoy it greatly and need to read the others from that series. It will be 2013 long before I get done with the finder's stone if that happens...
I LOVED The Blade Itself! Do you have the other books in the trilogy too?
Haven't picked them up yet. I got the first one off your recommendation in another thread, just have been horribly slacking on reading lately. Well. Slacking on a lot of things lately, but usually reading isn't one of them. |

I saw a manga with that premise, once... I don't recall much about it, other than the fact that the main character could launch himself in orbit just by farting...
On topic, I started reading The Golden Compass. Really didn't feel like reading that one next, but it was lent to me months ago, and the guy recently said something about wanting the books back...
Finished Cold Days last night, and Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal early this morn.
I think either I, Jedi and/or the Thrawn trilogy will be next. I've been feeling a Star Wars vibe, of late, and the only Star Wars novels I have are I, Jedi and the ones by Timothy Zahn. |

Yeah, it was great, wasn't it? Rare for Erikson to have a (mostly) self-contained story in this series. |

Very enjoyable. Erikson's spacing of his characters makes it harder to get attached to them. |

Finished The Golden Compass today... I enjoyed it, but it was lacking something... I think it was a combination of being thrown off by the daemons and not really caring about the main character. Either way, the book just didn't quite grab me.
I know there's a sequel, but I have no plans to read it.
I started re-reading Heir to the Empire. I'm sure I've said it before, but to me, those books capture the feel of the Classic Trilogy quite nicely. |

I liked The Golden Compass and the two following books. I'm kinda disappointed that the movie wasn't all that great, and that the final two were axed.
The next two books have a very different feel to them. I'm not saying that you'd necessarily like them, but when they introduce the parallel universes, things really open up. |

I didn't quite have the same problem, since I tend to reread The Hobbit every few years. But I did notice that I'd forgotten a lot of Bilbo's great lines from the early chapters of the book. |

Thats a good point after 3 or 4 years even I could use a reread of the Hobbit to refresh my memory. |

Finished the Fellowship of the Ring. I must say that I REALLY did not enjoy the first part of the book up to the point when the hobbits arrive at Bree. In fact, I almost gave up on it. After that point it felt like a different author took over and I really enjoyed the rest. This is the first time I have read this book and am looking forward to finishing up the series after a short break.
Now continuing with the second half of The Bonehunters. |

That's good news about The Bonehunters because I really enjoyed the first half of that book. There was just something about the actual writing style in the first part ofThe Fellowship of the Ring that bothered me. I have seen the movies so I knew most of what would happen in the book and it wasn't a lack of action that bothered me. I'm glad it got better for me too because I have put this series off for far too long. |

I gave up on it the first time I tried to read it somewhere in the first 200 pages. I started again later and found everything after that first part was better. My friend later advised me to just skip to where the Hobbits are leaving the Shire for that very reason and I have seen that advice echoed elsewhere. So, you aren't alone in that view. If you are reading them all, Return of the King may come off as a little odd as the first half is the business with Aragorn and company and the second half is Frodo and Sam and somewhere towards the end they start to come together even though the events happen at the same time like the movie.

I liked Revan in general, but don't expect a whole lot of closure. Also don't expect decent treatment of any character that wasn't from KotoR 1, if they even rate being mentioned at all. It's painfully obvious the author (who used to work for Bioware as a writer if not their main writer) would rather pretend KotoR 2 (and it's acclaim of having a far better plot) didn't exist.
As for me, I am just about finished with Dream Spheres by Elaine Cunningham. I was going to read Evermeet next, but I believe I am going to read Brimstone Angels: Lesser Evils and possibly Star Wars: Annihilation by Drew Karpyshyn (the author of Revan, who despite aspects of his writing for Revan I generally like as an author). Then it will probably be back to Evermeet unless I take way too long reading those other two and Timothy Zahn's new Star Wars book (Scoundrels) comes out.

Neverwhere was quite interesting.
I have The Graveyard Book, but I've not read it yet. I've heard many good things about it, and I'd like to share it with my son, once he's old enough, if it's as good as I've heard.
And Stardust... Definitely can't wait until he's old enough for me to read that to him! I love the movie and the book!
My friend Gino was over one eve, and everyone wanted to watch a movie... He wasn't enthusiastic about it, but he agreed to watch Stardust with us -- which was an improvement over the previous time, when he flat out vetoed it. How did he like it? He bought it on Blu-ray as soon as he could find it, and it's now one of his faves! |

I've read everything Gaiman has written -- in all the various mediums. But I still count his work on the Sandman comic book series [published by Vertigo/DC] as his best. There's just such a displayed mastery of weaving entertaining stories evidenced in each of the 70+ issues, that I've yet to see repeated in anything else that's he written since. |

I've heard it said that Revan runs pretty much as the "proper" sequel for Knights of the Old Republic.
Not sure I agree with that thinking. Despite KotOR 2's many problems, it did offer some great gameplay, and a few intriguing NPCs as well. How can you not love Atton Rand? Or the Handmaiden for that matter? |
