Wanted to re-visit my favorite realms character, Danilo Thann, but didn't want to miss any appearances. Besides the song and sword series....what else do I need to grab off of the shelf?

And I wouldn't be surprised if The Sage doesn't already have said listing compiled already!

He's in one of the Liriel books, but it's only a brief appearance -- he meets Liriel while she's trying to get into Waterdeep, and subtly lets her know he realizes she's a drow, and drops an Eilistraee reference at the same time.

He's the narrator of "Evermeet: Island of Elves". But that's a rather marginal appearance, of course.

Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate to know that for destruction ice is also great and would suffice. – Robert Frost (1874 - 1963)

Also, he's in Tangled Webs by Elaine Cunningham, talking to Khelben. As for short stories, he's in Realms of Valor and Realms of Mystery. Hope this helps!

It's actually on the "To-Do" list, along with a fairly ambitious plan to compile the listing with just about everything Elaine Cunningham has said about Danilo online from various sources. It's intended as a comprehensive bibliography with commentary from Elaine thrown in for reference purposes.

Most of the more pertinent sources have already been mentioned anyway -- aside from Elfshadow, Elfsong, Silver Shadows, Dream Spheres, etc...

I'd buy that for a dollar! Seriously, sounds like an awesome project, can't wait to see it.

On a related tangent, are all of the Elaine Cunningham Realm's short stories in the Best of the Realms anthology that features her?

There is a very slight reference to him in James Lowder's Ring of Winter. I emailed EC and JL years ago about it and it is more for the readers inference than an out right reference. I think it had something to do with making sure the reference didn't later become a continuity problem.

It doesn't contain "Games of Chance," which was published in DRAGON Magazine. The editor felt that it was published too recently to warrant reprinting.

A few stray thoughts.

Anthologies, as a rule, don't sell nearly as well as novels, and reprint collections even less so. What I would love to see is a series e-book collections that bring back the Realms fiction by author, even those who've published only two or three stories. I'd happily pay for the collected stories of J. Robert King or Jim Lowder. Christie Golden fans would snap up her elven vampire tales.

Ebooks would also offer a way to explore an underused format: the novella. I had to bow out of the Realms of the Elves anthology due to health issues, but ever since then the unfinished story "The Tree of Souls," a tale of Prince Lamruil's attempt to found an outpost kingdom in the far north, has been a tickle in the back of my mind. I wouldn't expect there to be overwhelming interest in the story, but I do think there would be enough people willing to pay $1.99 for an e-riginal novella to make it financially viable.

Seriously? Yikes! That IS ambitious, given how much I tend to natter on about these (fictitious) people.

Indeed.

You will, of course, be receiving a special "advanced" copy -- just for reference purposes, and for any additional commentary. I would prefer you to "okay" it all, before I make it available as a compilation, as there are some really old replies [like, for example, from the Wizards boards in 2001/2002]. Perspectives may have changed.

Isn't that an Elaith story, where he shows some of his usually hooded anger?

I thought that one was in that best of Elaine?

The story I originally had in mind for Reclamation no longer works, and since we're now 100 years past the events, I don't foresee it making its way into the FR publishing lineup.

It seems to me, however, that this would be another interesting use for e-riginal FR stories. If at some point WotC decides to take a more Star Wars approach to the timeline--that is, publishing books set in different eras--then ebooks would be a good way to go about it.

Oops, you're right! The omitted story was "Gorlist's Dragon."

An original story or some recognizable characters?

Never mind....that one was in Realms of Dragons I believe. Knew that title sounded familiar.
