Hi all. I've been looking after good rules for plane creation for some time, but as far as I know, nothing regarding plane creation has ever been made canonical. There are a lot of rules for planes, which are quite useful as a DM if you want to create new ones for your characters, but I haven't read anything about how to create a plane being a player (or being a DM who wants to make a nice ruleset for it).
The only reference I recall is from Psionic's Handbook; there's a 9th level psionic spell with which you can bring a little plane to existence. But there are no "rules" for wizards and sorcerers. There's a lot of canonical lore around plane creation: The Sildeyuir, in Aglarond's forest, was created by powerful star elves archmages, for example. Yet there's nothing clear, not even in the two main planar books (Planar Handbook and Book of the planes), about how to make something like this.
There are some things that are quite obvious: powerful mages, and many of them, are probably needed for bigger planes. As always (I'm a bit obsessed with epic magic : P) I thought about the possibility of making some kind of epic spell, but there are a lot of things I still cannot solve. For example, what would be the limit for time changes? And what about morphic traits? (I'm translating directly from spanish, sorry). The Creation seed of epic spells just cannot handle all this issues, as a plane is more than just a lot of matter.
Of course, with the help of a god you can create anything, but I want to know if WoTC, or any fan-made rule, has an approach to plane creation for player characters, before making my own rules. I feel this kind of things are quite interesting, and has a lot of potential for any game, and I would be grateful if any of you could give me some rules for it, even if they're from other editions (I'll try to adjust them).
By the way, it has little to do with plane creation, but I have another problem (I recall it has been discussed before, but don't know where). How does Limbo fit in a Forgotten Realms Campaing?

Rules and guidelines for determining properties of homebrew planes are fully described in the Manual of the Planes (at least the 1E, 2E, and 3E versions; not sure about the 4E version). |

I know there are rules to create planes as a DM, but I haven't read anything about a powerful mage, for example, creating a plane (the rules, not the fact). In Manual/Book of the planes it says "some powerful mages may even create their own demiplanes" or something like that, but I want something more specific (if there is something more specific, of course). |
