I've just had a look through the members list and ....
Shocking!
I am surprised that so many of the old names I remember do not post anymore. I know I have been away for a while but I did not think that so many Realmsites would have rolled there last d20 in the realms.
Without wanting to cause any arguements I have a feeling or 4 as to why!
Though on a lighter note it's good to see some of you are still here hamster and all

Two of my best friends left the joyous endeavour of Forgotten Realms Lorekeeping ... due to heartbreak over the 4th Edition F.R. cataclysms.
In turn, those departures broke my heart. :-( |

| Indeed. I know from time to time, I've had to consider leaving Candlekeep for a period -- either because of a heavier work load, or due to family commitments. I'd expect other scribes suffer much the same. |

We've always had member turn-over, though 4e did accelerate it a bit. But Sirius Black disappeared well before 4e, as did plenty of others. And sometimes people come back, as well.
It's sometimes hard for me to realize that I'm one of the "old hands" now as well. It's going on 7 years at the Keep for me. |
Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be... Sigh... And now 4e as well. |

Ah, soon you'll be entering the favoured cabal of the legendary "First Ones" here at Candlekeep. And such status confers a nifty encounter suit to protect you from the years of long exposure to inane chatter, off-topicness, Wooly's senseless commentary, the effects of SageTime, and other conditions related to reading hundreds of dusty old scrolls.
...
As an aside, there are so few of us left now, anyway. It's hard to believe I've been here for nearly ten years! |

Well, people grow up, y'know? Not that the Keep is juvenile, but people evolve as they live their lives. Their interests change, they have other responsibilities, and sometimes a big event comes along that makes for a convenient jumping off point.
Some might be back, some are gone for good. I don't think we should necessarily read anything into it, unless someone very clearly specifies why he/she is leaving. The 4e shift makes a convenient smoke screen, but I mean heck, Mace still posts from time to time, and he was like the *opposite* of 4e's biggest fan.
And have I really been here 6 years? No wonder I'm getting allergic to all these dusty scrolls.
Cheers |

I have a higher post-count on at least two other forums I no longer frequent, and on all the ones I have enjoyed over the years, I have experienced the same thing. People come, and people go, and in most cases it has NOTHING to do with FR, D&D, or the color of Azoun's favorite codpiece. There are places I remember All my life though some have changed Some forever not for better Some have gone and some remain All these places had their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life I've loved them all |

I'd settle for my fifth star. That, alas, is still going to be some time in coming... |

And I imagine there are a few original oldsters who forgot their login/pw somewhere along the line and now have a new handle.

I doubt anyone would ever forget his username, specially if he's been here at CK for a very long time. As for passwords, maybe. But there's always the 'forgot password' link where you can enter your un and email. |

Because no one ever leaves for a year or two, and could possibly forget during that time?
Or maybe one or two might have wanted a new login, for other reasons.
I could point to at least one other person that I know has changed their login for (their own) reasons, though I won't name them out of courtesy.

I don't think so. I for one remember my approximately 7 different logins in various Regine Velasquez and Raymond E. Feist forums where I have been [for reasons too complicated to explain] inactive for more than two years now.
I'm almost quite certain the reasons for the absence of those scribes who are gone [for good or temporarily] exclude forgetting their logins. |

| I thought I would leave because of the lack of new lore that I was interested in... but I've been enjoying digging into the old lore. Leaving due to an edition change is a bad choice. |
Session Reports posted at RPG Geek. Stem the Tide Takes place in Mistledale. Dark Curtains - Takes place in the Savage North, starting in Nesmé. I wrapped my campaign into the Hoard of the Dragon Queen, but it takes place in 1372 DR. |

It is of course idiotic to log in to say this but...
I am leaving purely for Candlekeep and posters reasons. Indirectly the 4ed. plays a role. Its either leaving or starting to delete my own posts in anger as I don't have the temper for this any more.
No personal reasons or real life reasons at all and not leaving the Realms either. |

and some just go into lurker mode...
life's a drag....

why is being a wizard like being a drow? both are likely to find a dagger in the back from a rival or one looking to further his own goals, fame and power

| People's posting habits change too. I lurked at the keep for a long time and freqently do still. I suspect others are still around but don't feel there's much to discuss with the dearth of new RPG product. |

| I'm one of those currently in lurker mode. Life is, well, a real pain at the moment. I still visit the keep from time to time, but even gaming is on hold until everything settles down. I'd love to start contributing again as I have things I'd like to share with the wonderful people here. I just don't have the time. :( |
