Hello
I am starting to read some of the Forgotten Realm stuff, I have read the Icewind Dale Trilogy, and I have been wanting to read the Cleric books, If I just read the first book, whatever its called Canticle I think.
Anyway if I read just that book, will there be a cliffhanger at the end or will it be ok if I did that.
I am confused help.

Well, each leads into the other, but they can be read independently - each is also a self-contained story (with an over-arching storyline concerning the 'real' villain behind the scenes, who isn't confronted until book 5).
So you will have an ending to that particular book's story - no worries there - but you will probably want to read the rest eventually. Reading the first one without the others is easiest - it gets a bit harder after that (I know, because I re-read them, and lost the first two, so had to start with #3). |

I think you mean book 4. lol
After book 4, I was like "What are they going to do now?", but then a surprise villain suddenly entered the picture. |

There are no noobs, only future friends of the Realms. |

They all lead into the next one. Canticle ends with a lot of little story elements which are continued and developed in In Sylvan Shadows, and so on. To get the whole picture, you kinda need to read them all. It's especially important that you read the 5th book in the series, The Chaos Curse, if you want to understand it when Cadderly shows up in the Drizzt books, later on. And if you're gonna do that, then you might as well read all 5.
BTW, if you click the link in my signature, you can see a list of all of RAS's Realms stories in chronological order. You can see where "The Cleric Quintet" fits in with all the Drizzt books, for example. |

| There aren't any noobs in FR XD We really don't care if someone is new to it, if they are new to it, we try to help them out onstead of laugh at tjem. I am guessing you were from WoW? And there aren't any books you need to read, I haven't even read one Drizzt book, wait, scratch that, I read the graphic novel to Homeland. My favorite books in te FR universe are te The Last Mythal teilogy, Elves of Evermeet, Stardeep, The Lady Penitent teilogy, among many others. Welcome to the Forgotten Realms :) |

Though we never quite reached a consensus, this is a topic that was discussed at length in the Experienced help for recommending FR Novels thread. Perusing that scroll may be helpful for you.

| Uhhhh whichever ones interest you that you want to read? You don't HAVE to do anything in FR. You can even mix around the lore so it suites you! I don't personally do this (but I have analternate FR world) because I like sticking to canon, even though it po's me at times lol |
