If I recall, Asmodeus himself never directly sent his personal stock of pit fiends into action in the blood war; he was building up an army for "A conflict that would dwarf the blood war" by his claim.
The time is coming. |

Question... by "5,000 Seldarine Knights" do we mean fighter levels only, or a mixture of classes? And I really like the Purple Dragons as well... so it's a bit of a tough call.
It can be a mixture of classes. whatever you want bro! really the question is isf you were going to take over the realms and you had to start with 5k troops what type of troops would you want to use in this war if you could choose?

What exactly do all those pit fiends do, day in and day out? I mean, you can only torture lemures for so long until it gets dull.
Maybe they farm abyssal potatoes and abyssal tomatoes. Perhaps some are shepherds of abyssal cows and abyssal sheep.
And what do their houses look like? I bet they have really tall and wide doorways so they don't bump their leathery wings.

Suburban Hell... NICE.
I just picture them driving to work each day in heavy traffic (in their lemure-pulled chariots), and them calling their wives on the way home to tell them that they'll be late... and a she gets mad because she has a delicious unbaptized soul in the oven... |

Dos Auto.
Heh, I wonder what the realms would be like with automobiles.
Anyways the Purple Dragons would blast the Baatezu in their Hummers away with their tanks!! (yes, the Obarskyrs are bad mofos that way) |

5,000 Techsmiths/Gondar would be something to see... kept in reserve with under orders to turn out Gondsmen, with various golems and seige engines, I would foresee quite a wondrous war. Also having a few of them in the field to repair the troops and blow up any major problems would make it a nigh-unstoppable force. That being if I wanted to bring glory and wonder to The Realms... if the aim were only death then give me a few thousand Phaerimm to feed. |

I have to say, I'd probably use a force of Humanoid "Monsters", because most of teh more powerful forces listed here all have alterior motives, or are just very taxing to control. Dragons? Slaad? seriously? I'd hate to think what would happen when we get close to victory and someone decides to mutiny. >.>
so, I'd probably use Orcs, Goblins, or Lesser Giants of some kind (like Ogres, or Trolls). |

Man, tough question. My first incline was to go with the Red Wizards, but after careful thought, I went with the Purple Knights. There are some things that you can't account for in war, and one of them is discipline. I feel that Cormyr could field the most disciplined army on Faerun.
