hello all,

first time posting on the forums here and i hope i do not disappoint with this question, which is baffling for me to answer, as a test of your lore keepers.

i'm starting a write up for a campaign that is going to be based in and around Sembia. now i have gathered quite the collection of the area specific AD&D Realms sourcebooks as well as of 3.0 and 3.5 and can not find a single one focused on the area, Sembia. if any of you can tip me off to any source of information that would familiarize me with the cities, contenders, and any notable dungeons (of course) in the area without referring to novels, i would consider the help as personal of a favor as any of you would be comfortable with.

here's to learning more!

edit: upon pouring over some of your scrolls, I found a link to Candlekeep's Compendium, which may have some of the answers I seek. but of course, the link is dead.

Greetings to you Jared, and welcome to Candlekeep.

...

As per your query re: Sembia:-

Sembia wasn't a heavily detailed region in the older Realmslore... mostly because TSR left it as a area for DM's to detail.

Sources include:- Forgotten Realms Adventures, and the FR boxed sets for 1e and 2e, as well as the 3e Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting and 4e Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide.

As well... "Land of Merchants" [POLYDEHRON #94] and Cult of the Dragon pgs. 33–34.

"Rand's Travelogue:- Caravans and Trading Companies in Sembia" -- http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/fx20010905b

"Realmslore:- The Flourishing Career of Melvos Hammerstars" -- http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/archfr/rl

And, also, see Ed's replies here at Candlekeep. Just follow the "So Saith Ed" link in my signature, and search for Sembia.

Hmmm... The Compendium is still there, and can be found here on Candlekeep.com.

I can only speak for 1E and 2E, but Sembia as always been a little developed area, as originally (as far back as 1E), a decision was made to leave it as a territory for individual DMs to develop. The big cities (Daerlun, Ordulin, Saerloon, Selgaunt, and Yhaunn) each got a two-page write-up in the 2E Forgotten Realms hardcover.

Sembia is a major base for the Cult of the Dragon - the 2E supplement Cult of the Dragon is still available as a free download from WotC, although nowadays, it is very well hidden. A Candlekeep scribe has sought out the permalinks leading to the files, and a full list can be found HERE.

EDIT: And while I was typing this, the Sage beat me to it.

Thank you all for the resources! Yes, I actually own a physical copy of Cult of the Dragon, they will be the main antagonists in this run.

Sembia being an obvious choice to place the setting, I am also considering The Vilhon Reach- but are there any other places- particularly in the Shining South- that you know would have any Cult cells or activity? According to the all mighty fluff of course...

Thanks again
