Don't worry, Arivia. Since you're only 14, I'll let you slide for now.

Seriously, it's from a [::checks to make sure Alaundo isn't around::] non-Forgotten Realms series by Rick Cook. A very funny fantasy where a computer programer is tossed into The World (no other name is given, which irks me), where magic works a lot like computer programs. Only it's a lot more dangerous, since, technically, you are part of the "system." (As in, you never want a General Protection Fault message there.)

Anyway, "black moss tea" is a moderately vile-tasting brew that the programers in the story say is a caffine addict's dream . . . .

The first two books are here, at Baen Publishing's Free Library. Completely legal.

Oh, I remember reading them a while back, but I didn't realise Baen had any of Cook's works for download. Thanks Bookwyrm...

Slacker. I check in every month! Check the Free Library and the schedual at the same time . . . read sample chapters . . . drool over the books I'm going to buy the moment I get my hands on them . . . . Ring of Fire . . . State of Disobediance . . . and -- oooo! -- There Will Be Dragons . . . .

I want that one and that one and that one and oh dear my wallet's empty . . . . Oh, why do they have to have the prices so high?

I might not like every book Baen has printed, but they're 100% quality SF&F. If I ever actually sit down and finish one of my books, they're at the top of my list of people to sell it to.

I know what you mean. Ever since you mentioned the Honor Harrington series (sorry again Alaundo...) I have been slowly working my way through them, both from free online downloads, and the purchased copies I could find.

Well, not so much a convert. I remember reading Basilisk Station back in high school. The Baen availability of some books from the series, coupled with your mentioning it, rekindled the enjoyment I felt when I read the first book. I only wish now, that I had followed the series from the beginning when it was first started instead of now playing 'catch-up'.

I have the Honorverse CD, which has the ten main books and the first three anthologies on it. The fourth anthology and the "spinoff" (for lack of a better term) Crown of Slaves are later publications. As soon as I get it back from my astronomy professor, I can email you a copy . . . . (Yes, it's legal. Thank you, Jim Baen! )

Sorry if there was some confusion there. I was having some difficulty editing posts, and so had to repost and delete. Nothing wrong with the site, just with my end. Usually when I have to do that sort of thing, I get to it before anyone ever notices, and more importantly, replies. You're just too quick for me, Sage.

Oh, and don't worry about missing out on it all. You've got it now, and you can read them all together without waiting two years in between.

Of course, by the time you've reached the end of book ten, War of Honor, the wait for the next one will be unbearable, simply because you'll be used to it being otherwise.

I know exactly how you feel. After all the hours I have worked this month, my wage seems small indeed, at least when I look at all the new release gaming material this month...sigh....

I wish I had been working, can't make it much longer like this,Unemployment isn't enough even with the free schooling, soon may have to flip hamburgers to stay afloat since no good paying jobs are open and places closing down all around. So I take any free downloads I can get.

Pizza is probably the easiest gaming meal (snacks aside) as you can continue gaming whilst holding a slice and munching

I'll join Rad for the Baileys or two. Man Absinth that stuff is lethal! 70% proof and contains essence of Woodworm! (Same Effect as LSD) Or so I've been told!

As for my Choices well, Midget Gems (Canny go wrong with them) some crisps- Lamb and Mint Sensations! Pizza or a pot of pasta for warm food! Or better chinese or indian take-away! When I am drinking either Magners (Real Irish cider don't you know!) or MGD followed by a baileys or two towards the end of the night. When I am not drinking coffee or soft drinks Irn Bru all the way or Cream Soda! When its been a rough night before its water my friends!

In Ed's original Realms campaign, Stilton cheese and fresh pears for special occasions, glasses of cordial or beer (one of us owned and ran a brewery) for toasts of marriages, births, and graduations... and, at every play session, the regular: gallons of green tea, potato chips (had to be stout chips, for dipping), and chip dip. Both Ed of the Greenwood and Jim Clarke (Merith) made killer dips.
And I mean killer...filled up Ed's arteries and gave him angina, eventually. You start with a big bowl and whip three bricks of Philly Cream Cheese, add two tubs of sour cream, then Worcestershire Sauce, Hot Sauce, and a dash of Ketchup, then Knorr leek soup mix, then some secret seasonings known only to Ed....ah, heaven. Gross once it hardens, but...there has to be some left for it to harden.
Yummmmmm. Think I'll go drop in on Ed (it's his 24th wedding anniversary today!) and beg him to make some.

My buddies and I survive on iced-tea and diet Coke. We munch on Combos, jerky, and packed lunches (I prefer turkey, mayo, and swiss on pita bread).

We typically take a break after about four hours to order a large pizza with green peppers, onions, buffalo chicken, and bacon.

I'll have to try that recipe, when I get the chance...

Now you KNOW I'm not going to tell. Faraer has guessed pretty close, but then (like the gentleman he is) refrained from pushing to a definitive answer. I have my own good real-world reasons for being coy.
How's this: of the regular players, I was one of the ones who looked pretty good clad only in chip dip (no, DON'T ask). :}

Um, I don't think I will.....though even with your sly explanations, I still want to know what those mystery seasonings are.......

The Chosen of Vhaeraun
"Nature is governed by certain immutable rules. By virtue of claw and fang, the lion will always triumph over the goat.Given time, the pounding of the sea will wear away the stone. And when dark elves mingle with the lighter races, the offspring invariably take after the dark parent. It is all much the same. That which is greater shall prevail. Our numbers increase steadily, both through birth and conquest. The dark elves are the dominant race, so ordained by the gods." Ka'Narlist of the Ilythiiri.
