lol, can't blame a scribe for trying.
"The spoiler text tag already exists on this forum" ... have you already enabled the option, is it already completely functional? |

Well met
Aye, it's been used in the past, although I don't believe many scribes use the function. Simply use as other tags but place the word SPOILER within the square brackets. |

There's been a lot of discussion lately concerning 5e, which is really 3 different subjects (D&D, the 5e setting, and their plan to "support all eras").
All of this discussion is knocking a lot of good threads right off of page one within a day or two; that sort of activity I haven't seen around here, ever (maybe before my time).
I'm thinking that a new, 5e Heading should be added to the other major headings, to keep the general scroll clear of all of this activity (because it seems to have become the default forum for EVERYTHING).
Then that can get broken into the 3 sub-headings I mentioned above. The 5e D&D topic should just be for rules. The "support for all eras" topic should just be for people posting about areas/periods they'd love see get some coverage, and the Fifth edition Forgotten Realms topic should be for people wanting to talk about the new (post-4e) setting that is getting planned as we speak, so people can put forth their ideas, and what they would and wouldmn't like to see in a new 5th edition setting.
As of now, its all getting jumbled together, and folks are posting about other 5e subjects in in appropriate threads (I find myself doing this all the time). Plus, the general thread is getting swamped - I think a little 'house cleaning' may be in order. I had proposed something similar back during the height of the Edition Wars, and that idea was dismissed at that time. Looking back, I fully understand why - separating folks would not have solved the problem, it would have made things worse. However, this is something altogether different - its more along the lines of an 'organizational thing', so folks can find the right information quickly and easily, and contribute to discussions in a more positive manner.
Any thoughts? |

Heh. Didn't we just have this discussion a couple of years ago, when 4e started gaining everyone's attention?
...
In all seriousness, I have been considering a separate shelf for the discussion of D&D Next/5e Realms -- if only to keep all the pertinent information in an easy to reference place.
Have to chat with Alaundo. |

Thanks.
As I mentioned above, I think this is a very different situation then the one we had in 4e. That could have been viewed very negatively by folks. I think this would be completely different - its just to keep all the right traffic in all the right threads.
Also, please consider the 'D&Dnext', 5eFR, and "Support for All Eras" sub-forums. I think a big problem with 4e was that negativity from one aspect (the rules and/or setting) constantly bled into the other aspects, creating an over-all bad taste in everyone's mouth. If we could keep the rules and setting discussions separate (along with the SFAE thing), that might stem the tide of cross-contamination (and hate-mongering). |

I'm agreeing with Markus's suggestion that we probably need a few more specific subforum categories. D&D rules/gaming, non-Realms stuff, and General Chat are - let's admit it - topics which are constantly being discussed somewhere. I understand the Realms-specific focus and (very good) reasoning against implementing General Chat, but I personally think it's better to just roll with the punches and create proper pigeonholes than to have this random ink continue to spill all over the other scrolls.
A useful feature would be some kind of nested or branching reply option ... a (preferably lazy one-click button) way for scribes to engage in nonlinear conversation without destroying the integrity of the OP topic. A slightly radical approach, perhaps, but a variety of implementations have long been standard issue in many BBS/forum software packages.
Not advising this just because I like the bling bling (although I do), but more because my "objective" opinion is that these are features which would benefit CK most greatly.
Having said all this - thanx Alaundo/Sage/Furball for providing and maintaining CK. Note to Alaundo: your "Donate" button is still busted, so no donations forthcoming haha. |

I'd suggest a simple file upload/download folder, or a way to attach images/pdfs to posts (I know this might be difficult to make work) |

Hmmm. I'm somehow unable to get images of a giant blue hamster wheel out of my mind. |

That's definitely on the list of improvements. In fact, it's one of the most requested. |

Just a minor thing . . . Why does a single quotation mark or apostrophe always default to double quotation mark in the Choices boxes in a poll? |
Every beginning has an end. |

My apologies if this has been suggested previously ...
The Candlekeep forums are most frustrating to access, twice so when offering new submissions, when using a mobile device. At least using my LG Eclypse C800G smartphone device with the default/generic browser or Firefox browser (Chrome is unavailable for Android 2.3.4).
Of special concern is the thrice-damned "Reset Form" button which is quite nearly impossible to avoid pressing accidentally on a touchscreen input. Removing this single element would probably alleviate roughly 50% of my Candlekeep-via-mobile-device difficulties. |

I'm not sure why. Might be a problem with the code. |

Hmmm. I've heard similar complaints from various other smartphone users as well.
I don't think Alaundo's ready to incorporate any direct "mobile version" of Candlekeep, as he's said previously. But it may be a point worth considering in the future is this becomes a more diversive problem among the community.
I'm sorry we can't currently provide more efficient access for your smartphone, Ayrik. |

Another minor mobile device quibble you may wish to consider: My keyboard offers quotes and apostrophes which, methinks due to some Korean-English misunderstood defaults, are technically backwards (“ ‘) ... they are unfit for your text formatting blocks and in particular make for ugly urls.
It should be a small matter to have Snitz accept any of these characters for this purpose, I hope. |
