One of my PCs is a paladin of Ilmater from Damara (Goliad to be precise). We're nearly at the point where the party will travel to Damara to become embroiled in the political machinations of the corrupt leader of the paladin order and Dimian Ree, Baron of Morov. During their stay a lot of famous NPCs will be involved in the overall plot, people like Kane, Knellict and possibly Gareth Dragonsbane himself. My player has recently read the Salvatore novels about the Witch King and the other exploits of Drizzt in Damara, which is part of the reason she is very eager to visit her homeland.
As I haven't read those particular novels myself, I was wondering if there are any descriptions in those novels, or elsewhere, of the most important NPCs. It's mostly the physical description that I'm after, so I won't describe someone as Knellict and have my player say: "Hey! That's not how I remember him from the novels." I had a look at the excellent 2e Bloodstone Lands module, but the "Movers and Shakers" chapter doesn't list any physical descriptions.
EDIT: I forgot to post the list of the NPCs I'm planning to use:
- Dimian Ree (Baron of Morov) - Knellict - Dormythyrr (Regent of Goliad) - Kane - Gareth Dragonsbane - Riordan Parnell - Celedon Kierney - Timoshenko (Grandfather of Assassins) - Canthan Doolittle

The Forgotten Realms wiki lists some of the names I posted. Can anyone confirm if they're accurate?
- Dimian Ree (Baron of Morov)
- Knellict Knellict is of great, but unknown age, generally assumed to be in his second or third century. Usually brooding, quiet, and emotionless, Knellict, has been known to fits of rage where he polymorphs people into creatures such as cockroaches or mice.
- Dormythyrr (Regent of Goliad)
- Kane Kane is in his early 70s. He is wiry, but muscled. He has fraying white hair and beard. He dresses in simple rags and wears no jewelery other than a pair of magical rings. His belt is a simple length of rough rope, his sandals worn and threadbare. Just as befits an ascetic.
- Gareth Dragonsbane
- Riordan Parnell Riordan is lithe of built and regarded quite handsome.
- Celedon Kierney Celedon appears as a charming rogue with more than a bit of elven blood in him.
- Timoshenko (Grandfather of Assassins)
- Canthan Doolittle Canthan is a slim, studious looking man, with beady brown eyes and a long straight nose. His gray-brown hair is thin, with a large bald spot atop his head. He often appears nervous, rubbing his fingertips together while speaking.
The descriptions of Riordan and Celedon aren't very elaborate, but I believe they play minor roles in the overall plot, right? |

- Gareth Dragonsbane
- Riordan Parnell Riordan is lithe of built and regarded quite handsome. Handsome and dashing, as mischievous and adventuresome as his cousin, Celedon Kierney.
- Celedon Kierney Celedon appears as a charming rogue with more than a bit of elven blood in him. A lover of wine and women, a prankster who often enrages his closest friends.
- Timoshenko (Grandfather of Assassins) A savage and cruel fighter of imposing size strength with a perpetual snarl on his lips. Uses a wickedly edge two-handed sword.
- Canthan Doolittle Canthan is a slim, studious looking man, with beady brown eyes and a long straight nose. His gray-brown hair is thin, with a large bald spot atop his head. He often appears nervous, rubbing his fingertips together while speaking.

Check also "The Rite" (2nd book of the Year of the Rogue Dragons trilogy, by Richard Lee Byers), which contains a description of some npcs you cited. |

Great! Thanks for the references and the extra information. I'll have to lend "The Rite" from somebody and look those NPCs up I guess. Do you perhaps know if Gareth Dragonsbane is in there as well? For such an important character very little is written about his appearance in sourcebooks. |

Drizzt was in Damara?
Despite the highly inaccurate back-cover of the Bloodstone Lands module, AFAIK Drizzt has never been to Damara.
On the other hand, both Jarlaxle and Artemis Entreri had a ripping-good time there. Well.. Jarlaxle did, at any rate. Entreri is never happy.

He wasn't?
I based my assumption on "Promise of the Witch-King" and the fact that Salvatore's name is synonymous with Drizzt. But I see now that Entreri and Jarlaxle only feature in that novel. |

He's briefly described on the first (and eleventh) chapter. |

Don't forget Arthrogate(or Athrogate)...I believe that's where Jarly picked him up. Or Artemis fling Cahyle(spell?). I think she was a half-elf or something. Spoiler:
Isn't either Knellict or Timishenko dead? Or removed from power? |

I'll point out that the earlier Bloodstone modules were set in 1357-58 DR. The two novels Promise of the Witch-King and Road of the Patriarch were set in 1368-69 DR, so the characters should be viewed as having changed somewhat from their group adventuring days.
- Dimian Ree (Baron of Morov)
- Knellict - Quiet, calm, impossible to read
- Nondescript clothing, in public (POTWK, P1:C3)
- Well-groomed
- Splendid robes of purple & red, in private (POTWK, P3:C22)
- Belt pouch of gold coins, for bribing informants (ROTP, P2:C12)
- Mortrue, white cat, on shoulder; considering making her his familiar (ROTP, P1:C6)
- Wand of fear, 20ch.
- Wand of fire, 30ch. (Bloodstone module H1)
- Wand of lightning: black, metal-tipped, shot through with lines of blue (ROTP, P2:C16)
- Jarlaxle faked his death before Gareth's court (ROTP, P2:C16); but drow plan to use him, so he's still alive (ROTP, P3:C20)
- Rumored to have replaced Timoshenko, assuming the title of Grandfather of Assasins (ROTP, P1:C2); thought of himself as the leader of a great band of killers, but he still spoke of Timoshenko as alive (ROTP, P2:C16)
- Dormythyrr (Regent of Goliad)
- Kane - 60 in 1357-58 DR in earlier modules; makes him 71 in late 1368 DR in POTWK/ROTP; looked 20 years younger (earlier Bloodstone modules)
- Fraying white hair & beard
- Thin & muscular before; just skinny now
- Dressed in dirty rags
- Belt of simple, rough rope
- Belt pouch with a candle
- Threadbare sandals
- Smooth, polished white jo stick, hard as adamantine, made of a branch from the White Tree (ROTP, P1:C2)
- Pair of magical rings (ROTP, P1:C2): One jeweled ring served as signal flare, other blue-jeweled ring enchanted with the spectral hand (ROTP, P2:C14)
- Small flying carpet (earlier Bloodstone modules)
- Gareth Dragonsbane - Mostly black hair, starting to gray
- Thick eyebrows
- Slight discoloration of skin surrounding blue eyes
- Handsome, fit, muscular
- Sleeveless black tunic, bare arms (ROTP, P1:C2)
- Hard boots (ROTP, P2:C16)
- Plate mail +3
- Crusader long sword +5 holy avenger
- Silver Horn of Valhalla (earlier Bloodstone modules)
- Riordan Parnell - Celedon Kierney (I typed up a description for those two, with oodles of gear, but the puter deleted the post. Maybe I'll re-type their entries later.)
- Timoshenko (Grandfather of Assassins) - Above posted description comes from Bloodstone Lands module FR9
- Two-handed sword +5 (Bloodstone Module H1)
- Rumored to have been replaced by Knellict, who would've assumed the title of Grandfather of Assasins (ROTP, P1:C2); Knellict thought of himself as the leader of a great band of killers, but he still spoke of Timoshenko as alive (ROTP, P2:C16)
- Canthan Doolittle - Second to Knellict
- Above posted description comes from POTWK, P1:C3
- Killed by Entreri in the Castle Perilous, with his life-force drained by the vampiric dagger (POTWK, P3:C20)

Wow! That's a tremendous help, BEAST. Thank you very much!
Dimian Ree and Dormythyrr are probably not featured in any Bloodstone Lands product, except for the sourcebook. |
