Anyone else notice the little joke about Regis and Catti-brie's names....?

Say them out loud: "Regis and Catti-brie." You'll get it if you haven't already.

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

notice details well. Regis and Cathy Lee.

I'd noticed it, sort of, but since I've always pronounced Catti-brie with an 'i' sound at the end, not an 'e,' it didn't strike me as funny. Regis was easy to spot, of course, it being a real-world name in a fantasy setting. That made the rest stand out.

Here in the States, there's this morning talk show host on TV named Regis Philben; he also used to host "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" He used to have a cohost named Kathy Lee Gifford (I think that was her last name).

What Arion is suggesting is that Salvatore diliberately named two of his characters in order to make a little pun: Regis and Catti-brie.

Though . . . were they both doing that when The Crystal Shard was published? That seems a long time ago . . . .

Thats a good question Bookwyrm!! But they go a ways back too.I'll
look in to it.If the bard is wrong we can flay him alive.
Wouldn't do that to ya ArionElenim.

My copy of The Crystal Shard says first printing 1988.
I found a several links that agree.I will post just one.
---->http://www.pen-paper.net/rpgdb.php?op=showfiction&fictionid=287
According to the info. I found, Regis Live added Cathy Lee in 1985 and changed the name to Regis and Cathy Lee in 1988.

I still think we should write Salvatore and ask him.

Nope!!! I would say you were right. The only way is if Salvatore himself made a post saying you made a mistake.Would be worth it to
get him on here.... Don't you agree.Especially since I'm not the one who would get flayed.
Another Salvatore link with date for The Crystal Shard being
given contract in 1987 and published by TSR in 1988.

I believe so. I've also seen him posing with a Scottish claymore (I think).

Oh, and I wasn't trying to flay anyone.

Hmmm,if you run across that picture w/Claymore will you put us a link
here?I know you are interested in weapons and armor from the link you posted a while back.I have an interest myself and may get more involved later on when time permits.
(Also Trafaldi is looking for you at the Inn.)

I believe it was in an About the Author blurb on the dust jacket of one of his books. I can't remember which one, but it would have been before 1999. I know it was one of my brother's books, and that was the year he moved out.

I remember comparing it to that picture at the mentioned link (which had been the first I'd seen of him) and thinking that he looked a lot different. He had a beard, I believe, and a rather wild look to him. Sort of biker-ish, but without the tattoos. I'm probably a bit off, though; it's been at least four years, and most likely more, since I saw that one.

Hmm . . . some poor soul's looking for me in the Inn? Well, I suppose I ought to go see about that. I usually just hang around the stacks here, but perhaps it's time for a change of scenery . . . .

Look at The Legacy or Passage to Dawn. I remember seeing the picture on a softcover book, and those two seem simply...right.

No, Legacy has a picture on the back (hardcover edition), but it's swordless. ()

I always do, if it's someone I haven't sent an email to before, or someone that doesn't get one from me often enough to know my address on sight. Of course, if it's someone from Candlekeep, it's not really all that necessary -- the name on my account is the same as the one I use here. Or, I should say, when I came here I used the name on my account.

Bookwrym is just thorough Rad!! I like that in a person.I wish I had
some of that in me,I usually see humour in everything and forget to
explain myself well enough while I am busy with a mind full of silliness.

this weekend.
I understand the talker part,I have been scolded many a time by my
former master for talking to a friend for too long.

Didn't get the joke too until someone spelled it out

“Darkness beyond twilight, crimson beyond blood that flows! Buried in the flow of time. In thy great name. I pledge myself to darkness. All the fools who stand in our way shall be destroyed…by the power you and I possess! DRAGON SLAVE!!!”

"Thieves? Ah, such an ugly word... look upon them as the most honest sort of merchant."
