Hello everybody, i'm looking for help with a slightly impossible task my current dm set me. Basicly we're doing a high level campaign (16th ECL to start) and I've created a Sun Elf 15NEC/ARC 1.
My problem is that as kind of a test that "doesn't count" in the whole game, my guy is supposed to face a single level 25 NPC in battle.
Str 14
Dex 15
Con 16
Int 24
Wis 15
Cha 17

are his stats at 16th level, Skill Focus (Spellcraft)
| Spell Focus (Necromancy)
| Spell Focus (Evocation)
| Empower Spell
Spellcasting Prodigy
| Scribe Scroll
are some of the feats, I'm basically looking for tips on spells to use, what kind of spells to memorize, anything you think would help.
He's also a master of Elements as an archmage, has a headband of intellect +6, (effective intelligence 30) plus a ring of wizardry IV.
And is it possible to empower a Dispel Magic or Greater Dispel Magic?

Mal.

I'm not even sure I should post here as not only do i not really know the 3E rules, but I also have never played with other people

I would suggest though, from a strategic point of view, that it would be useful to know what kind of class you will be fighting against. If it is a mage, obviously some defensive spells are not neccessary while others are...

Just a thought...

Something I was fond of doing when I was playing an NPC arch-lich for a fellow DM:

Summon, summon, summon.

The more creatures you summon, the better. Even if your opponent disspells them quickly, they buy you a GREAT deal of time...particularly if you can summon creatures that are easy to control and more than willing to kill a magic user.

Secondly, don't worry about the mind games many NPC mages will play: Quickened, Counterspell Spells and the like...if you're battling anyone, mage or not, - outfit yourself for battle. Magical Shields, Pro-Magics, Mordenkainen's Dancing Swords, the whole lot. Don't try to outdo an NPC by being clever.

Other than that, try to "Eschew Materials" if you can as well....makes things much easier....and also...a bag of rocks and a sling or a ready supply of Quickened Magic Missles make a great way to take advantage of a mage casting a spell...when that Attack of Opportunity comes a long,WHAM! Rock between the eyes = no spell for Mr. NPC.

Good luck!

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

Well your a Necromancer at 16th level? Use Enervasion on said 25th level guy as much as you can, This will make him loose a d4 in levels each time you cast it upon him. He will loose EVERYTHING, that comes with said levels as well. Not only this but there is no save for it, its our levels X 10 yards (might not be the right range) for distance, and only magic resist messes with it, the odds of him being magic res. is not going to be high if your a spell caster and you alone shall be fighting him. If he dose have spell res, pack up your books and dont play int hat game anymore, cause your DM wants your char killed a bit to much.

First cast Antimagic Aura (from MoF, lvl 7 abjuration), then cast Tenser's Transformation (or Iron Body) and engage him/her in close combat.

If you don't have those, use Spell Turning and Protection from Spells for defense. For offense use Delayed Blast Fireball but alter it to deal sonic damage instead of fire damage since most mages have some kind of protection against fire.

Other useful spells will be dispelling spells, or invisibilty spells. Also be sure to memorize at least one glitterdust. You probably chose divination as your prohibited school and you won't be able to counter invisibilty without it. Even if you didn't, your opponent might be a shadow adept and your divination spells may not be able to dispel his invisibilty. So memorize glitterdust!

There is also a chance, since you are a sun elf, that your opponent might be a drow. So take something that would reduce spell resistance.

And if your opponent comes out to be a fighter type , use Otto's Irresistible dance and then cast invocation spells that require reflex saves.

I don't play 3rd edition either but:

Polymorph various monsters into beetles and store the beetles in a jar. Enchant the jar to dispel magic when broken [if your DM will allow this]. Throw the jar at your opponent and run. When it breaks the monsters will return to their original formsm, break free and [hopefully] try to kill your opponent and each other.

Or:

If your opponent has protection against magic [which he will] polymorph a huge boulder into a pebble. Put the boulder in your sling and fire it at you opponent, his magic protection should dispel it and return it to its original form, crushing him.

Did you forget that when it turns back into a boulder it wont be moving at the same speed? Plus One would think that the said boulder, when changing into a large fing rock, would allow the person he shall be facing to do a reflex save to move out of the way? Not only that but if he is such a high spell caster then he is not a weak bodied one to our friends char. Our friend being 16th level is out matched greatly by someone who can toss spelled that do like, in the thousands for dmg. Its is also to be expected, well if I was the dm, that I would store up some anti magic. Oh btw. I hope he dose not have levels of spell breaker. That will hurt a lot if he dose.
