So I didn't see a thread for this anywhere on this shelf... If one appears, can the mods move this post please?

Anyway, I liked this short story. I thought that following Bareris was interesting, partially because he had free will and realized he was undead, but also because a bard of Velsharoon was an interesting concept to me. Would he qualify as a dirgesinger, perchance? Also, I liked the idea of various undead revolting against Szass Tam and necromancers choosing sides. I might have to read the Haunted Lands books now...

I really wanted to hear more about Mirror though. There was just enough about him that I got rather curious by the end of it. I hope he appears elsewhere sometime.

I also liked the first meeting between Bareris and Chon Vrael. I thought it funny. :)

Mod Edit: Sorry Lady Fellshot. Only I can open Book Club scrolls. Thus, I've moved your discussion scrolls here.

I did not enjoy this story all that much. The premise was good, but not having read The Haunted Lands, the story did not do enough to introduce the protagonists, or make them likeable/loathable enough to care what happened to them. Richard did make interesting use of Bardic magic though, and I found his take on how it might work fascinating. In short, I have read better by him.

Hi, Lady Fellshot. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Mirror features prominently in all three Haunted Lands novels.

I think is a nice bit after reading the trilogy...it was good to see Mirror and Baeris still "fighting the good fight" and the idea of an undead priest of Kossuth........there is alot to work with there in the future!
