Mine is Myrkul, who in my game I returned to status of God with a long storyline involving his essence being merged with the para plane of positive and negative energy after his battle with Mystra. He returns through the shadow weave and begins to challenge Shar for control of it. Eventually bleeding off part of its power, creating the Twilight Weave.
Other than Myrkul, my favorite is Sune. So many great ways to use her and her followers in a game. Also like Tymora.
Who is your favorite and why?

| Normally I'd say Torm but I've found myself taking a real liking to Tempus. With the alignment changed for 4E, I can really appreciate a zealot Paladin of Tempus who just craves carnage, warfare, and wetting his blade in the blood of his enemies. Then you take into account aquiring multiclass feats for the barbarian and the Paladin starts to rage....it just makes for great cinematic fight scenes and a cool story line. |

For me it is Gond.
But I also like very much Waukeen, Auril and Mask. |

In my arms, fellow Myrkul 's fan. Hard for me to justify rationally why I like him best. Let's just say I have always had an interest in creepy, clever and manipulative bastards.
I also like Loviatar a lot, as her followers are extremely interesting characters to play.

| I'll say my favorite is Cyric. He's got his fingers in just about anything and everything. Just like a proper God should. His lore is amazing, he is sort of a cool looker and on top of it all he has a solid portfolio. |

Lurue!
The whole point of a patron deity is that you follow the one who most closely matches your own nature. Here's what the Powers and Pantheons says:
"The Queen of Talking Beasts and Intelligent Creatures is often taken with wanderlust. She can be whimsical but is infinitely loyal once she takes someone into her trust, and she never abandons her worshippers in times of need. When faced with no other option that combat, Lurue is a dedicated and intractable foe, but she prefers light banter, clever riddles, new discoveries, and the joyous exploration of life.
The Unicorn is a symbol of hope, joy, salvation, and protection for the needy, forlorn, and forsaken. Life is to be relished and lived with laughter. Quests are to be taken on a dare and gifts are to be made on a whim. Impossible dreams are to be pursued for the sheer wonder of the possibility of their completion. Everyone, no matter how unique, is to be praised for their strengths and comforted in their weaknesses. Evil melts most quickly in the face of a rapier wit and unshackled joy. Search for the unicorn and in the pursuit find happiness.
Many of Lurue's clergy are adventurers who travel about the Realms seeking wrongs to right and finding a good balance of merriment, new experiences, and self-improvement in such a profession."
Plus, the city of Silverymoon was named after her, and that's one of my fave places in the Realms. Her affiliated order, the Order of the Unicorn, was founded by the Knights of the Unicorn, "a romantic, whimsical group of high-born adventurers."
So just about everything that Lurue is about is an aspect of my own personality. I can't think of any deity in any setting that's a better fit for me.
Other top choices:
Good:
Eilistraee Lathander Shaundakul Tymora Mielikki Selûne Nobanion
Neutral:
Finder Wyvernspur Oghma Ubtao
Evil:
Iyachtu Xvim (who is, I am firmly convinced, impersonating Bane) Vhaerun Mask Ghaunadar
I like Myrkul, too, but specifically the canon version: the intelligence within the Crown of Horns, happily not being a god and causing trouble. |

I don't think it's really any surprise that Myrkul "enjoys" his current state. Being somewhat removed from under Ao's divine thumb would certainly have its advantages... especially for a former deity who still likes to meddle in mortal affairs -- fear and terror can still be powerful "weapons of influence" in his arsenal, just as his unpredictability still would be.
As it is... I do like the idea of Myrkul in this state. If I had followed the path of the ToT in my campaign, 'tis likely this version of Myrkul would indeed be a part of my FR. |

I like your idea on Xvim, would make for an intereting part of a story. Or if not him impersonating Bane, then him being absorbed as Bane of Bane but then coming back through Bane at times and the two off them wrestling for control inside the God. That could make for an interesting twist.
Of everything in the 3/3.5 FR rules the crown of horns is my least favorite part. To me the idea was really stupid and poorly done and is the only thing in my adult life that I've read in a D&D book that actually pissed me off . In short, that never happened in my game. |

That actually came from 2E. And I think it was great... Not only is it just a fun idea, but it also brought Myrkul back into play without them simply handwaving him back into existence.
It also built quite nicely on existing lore, which is always a huge plus for me. |

3rd is the first time I saw it, in the prestige class. Myrkul's my favorite realms god and I really didn't like seeing that. Think it's a poor idea and really don't like it with Myrkul especially, it's just campy. |

| I've always been a fan of Bhaal (certainly due to my first exposure to the Realms being the Baldur's Gate game), as well as Bane, and Azuth. Bane for being a proper evil god (none of that insanity nonsense), and Azuth for being a god, basically, because he was just that good. |

When we talk about the gods I have a favorite Evil one and a God one
Myrkul and Sune
Myrkul - Dogma Know me and fear me. My embrace is for all and is patient but sure. The dead can always find you. My hand is everywhere - there is no door I cannot pass, nor guardian who can withstand me. Worshipers
The clergy of Myrkul were charged to make folk fear and respect death and the power of the almighty Myrkul so that no one stood against the church or tried to thwart its activities. Myrkul's priests were expected to spread the word that touching a priest of Myrkul brings death. They were expected to tell all folk that those in the service of Myrkul had perfect patience and could be trusted utterly - then conduct themselves accordingly. Myrkulyte clergy were to teach the stories of past and future doombringers - mortals who roamed the land avenging dead friends, masters, and blood kin to whom they had sworn oaths, and slaying those who scoffed or who held other gods supreme over the Lord of Bones. Initiates to the faith first heard the word of Myrkul through a speak with dead spell cast on a temple's most revered deceased former high priest. Such spells allowed all within hearing range to comprehend the corpse's words.
Sune -Dogma - Goddess of beauty, love, passion (Lady Firehair)
Sune's dogma maintains that physical beauty or lack thereof is more than simply a function of physical factors; to the Sunite, that which is beautiful is good and ugly things are undoubtedly evil, for they believe that beauty radiates from one's inner being and reflects the core nature of an individual. (This outlook when taken literally will often result in the deception of a Sunite by a fair-seeming evil creature.) Followers of Sune do all they can to protect their beauty. Sunites are also often narcissistic, being commanded to love themselves more than anyone except Sune herself. Apart from these specifics, Sune's dogma revolves around nurturing and encouraging love and passion. (This is not to say that all Sunites are hedonists, this being the domain of Sharess rather than Lady Firehair.)

those are my two favorite gods as well. Does anyone else think Sune is more suited to CN than CG? There are a lot of things about her dogma that just aren't, IMO, good. |

I always liked her portfolio, her relationship with lycanthropes and the war between her a Shar and Malar |
When hinges creak in doorless chambers and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls, whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still, that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight. |

| I'm suprised to hear so many respond with Cyric. Do any of you play characters that worship him? As a DM, I've found him to be a usful villian. Two different cults of cyric have featured as top villians in my game but I find him totally unacceptible for a pcs god. From the pro cyric responses I've seen here, I was wondering if some of you felt differently about that. |

| Gargauth for me, followed closely by The Triad. I find the idea of a classical devil figure exiled from hell to the mortal realm is excellent fuel for the DMing centres of my brain and I like the dark ages grand religion vibe I get from the Triad and associates. Also, the Moradinsamman is F'ing Metal. |

For my its Mystra. The Goddess of the Mysteries was always tied with my favourite realms. Even in 4th edition everything happened because of her death, so her role is always vital. |
