After years of playing in the North and along the Sword Coast I am thinking of moving to the area around the Dales, Cormyr and the Moonsea. I'm not sure how to run these areas and make them different so that the players can see they are in a different land and culture.
Any tips?

I'd recommend a scouring of Ed's scrolls as well, for pertinent lore re: the Dales and Cormyr [especially]. Simply scan the "So Saith Ed" archives by using the URL in my signature.

One way I've found for doing this is to use Google with search terms like this: "So saith Ed" Dales

I have downloaded the guides and these are just what I needed. From a quick glance at Cormyr I can say I was wrong about it not being a good place to adventure.

I was just going to mention the Cormyr scroll, but Afetbinttuzani beat me to it.
Julian: If/when you go the Cormyr route, I recommend using portals and extradimensional hideaways. I had lots of fun with those for my 3.5 Realms campaign, especially when the players start in one place (say Suzail) and end up in Sembia or the middle of Anauroch/Netheril. Going from a dungeon to a noble matron mother's bed chambers is fun too. ;) |

Especially when the PC's discover that long lost and forgotten about War Wizard Armory, full of item's of the state that Vangey, or who ever will stop at nothing to get back. |

I was looking over my Greybox maps and have decided that the Cormyr/Dales/Moonsea would be a great place to go. My problem was that I thought it was too civilized an area to play in but, after rereading some things, I find that this is not the case. |

Its a very "points of lightish" area. |

While it's true that Cormyr is quite civilized, the Helmlands and the Stonelands of northern Cormyr are a rugged, poorly controlled area with number of ancient ruins. The area around Tilverton is pretty thinly controlled as well. As such, there are lots of opportunities for frontier type adventures in Cormyr.
I did a bit of work fleshing out the Forgotten Keep in the Helmlands northwest of Arabel, that might possibly spark some ideas: http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11084

I have the first adventure pretty much ready. It involves a raid on Deepingdale and a kidnapping of a supposed Sembian merchants daughter. When they enter Semberholm they will find that things are not what they seem and something is stirring that has been sleeping for decades. |

Though you likely won't have time to read them before your game starts, the Knights of Myth Drannor novels by Ed (aka the 'Swords books') detail loads of adventures in Cormyr proper. |
