Does anybody know of any powerful lost magical artefacts around Faerun of note? Who created them, why, when and what do they do?
Any links to other sites talking about them would be useful.

And in your opinion which one is the coolest? Ie which one would you want in real life if you could have it?

Artifacts of the Realms are discussed in a lot of different sources... If anyone has ever put together a list of all of them, I've not seen it.

Volo's Guide to All Things Magical (formerly a suppressed work , now available for free from the Wizards downloads page) has full write-ups on artifacts.

See Lost Empires of Faerūn as well. And, if you're looking for particularly archaic references to power artifacts, I'd recommend the 2e Book of Artifacts.

Also, the 1e sourcebook The Magister has quite a few magical items of note.

"Gods, little fishes, and spells to turn the one to the other," Mordenkainen sighed. "It's started already..."

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out this reference yet. I've plucked a few choice morsels from there for use in my own game a time or two.

One of my players stumbled on the Shazzelurt, heavily wrapped in wards and bindings, in a dragon's loot pile a while back and I'm just waiting for her to take it somewhere and get it identified. Did I mention that she's a multi-classed bard/rogue?

So jcdf, if you can introduce me to your friend Malcor Harpell, and have him craft these items for me---but making the SotM have a light source and able to transform n fit nicely when not in use, and make the Arbane's Sword into a +3 sword!, makin'em custom fit for me n the lady---then you tell'em I'd be mighty grateful!

There is one ring that I have been looking for through all my gaming stuff but cannot remember in which setting it was. Forgotten Realms poss Grey Hawk or Dragonlance.

Ring of the Cat / Cats Ring / Lord of the Cats Ring?

This ring gave you :

9 lives (when wearer was reduced to 0 HP heal was atomatically cast on wearer.) the ring had 9 charges and could not be re-filled.

Dex Bonus +?

Lowlight vision

1/day polymorph into a cat of choice.

BUT the ring carried a curse effect, the wearer could never take the ring off, the wearer of the ring after the 9th life was used died without trace as life force was used to power ring for the next user or something.

I am still trying to find the proper specs for it.

I've always thought it was a good ring for a thief/catburgler.

any help in finding it would be greatfully recieved.

That ring is called "Ring of Nine Lives" It can be found in the Magic Item Compendium in a *Severely reduced state*. The original( or at least the predecessor) is found in Magic of Faerun, page 146.

Cheers Iliyan,
I see what you mean about severely reduced state, I think it's time to dust the Mage Crafter Lornell out to flex his ring crafting skills!

One ring to ......... Damn wrong setting again ;-)

Malcor Harpell and I had a falling out. So I afraid you are going be waiting.
Arbane's Sword is nice though! Could you not just permanently borrow it of Arbane? I am not sure where you might find the Purifier.

Ah man! Hate it when fall outs happen!

Yeah I guess I could borrow it (from Mr. Harpell upon meeting him), but borrowing is never the same as having it, y'know?
