So, I've been running Ruins of Adventure for several friends for almost a year now. We play for 3-4 hours every other Tuesday night. That leads to slow progress, but it's what fits with our lives at this point.

Sadly, one of our players had to move to Kansas City on the spur of the moment. I'll be posting somewhere else trying to find some playing options for him out there.

What we would like to do, since he's RP focused, anyway, would be to find a system or some guidelines for him to run his 1-2 characters that currently exist, in a Play-by-E-Mail game that is concurrent with the running campaign.

The one bonus (of shear luck) to the situation is that his primary character, Heiratess, had made a deal with the Kovel family, to act as their proxy on the council, since the Kovel family representative had been assassinated by the Welcomers of Phlan. Initially, Heiratess was given a speedy entrance to the Council as "bait" for the assassins. However, the agreement was solidified when they routed the Welcomers at Kovel Mansion and completely flushed them from the Mansions.

As such, Heiratess was offically made a council member at the very end of the last session (before we knew the player had to move).

From Ruins of Adventure, I will likely move into a brief in-between game and then Curse of the Azure Bonds.

So, does anyone have advice and/or guidelines for running a good quasi-play-by-e-mail game? It's likely that I could get 1-2 exchanges back and forth between sessions. I would like what happens in the e-mails to have a bearing on the campaign, and vice versa.

-Chris

HELLo!

I don't have any suggestions for running it via e-mail, but what about Skype or similar? Wouldn't be quite the same as if he were in the room, but it would allow you to communicate in real-time. If you have a web-cam as well, you'd be able to see eachother as well. ;-)

Happy codin'!

Dealing with 3.5 only. Refusing the reality of 4.0, and substituting it for my own.

I can highly recommend Skype as well. We've had two sessions now where someone was not able to make it due to illness, but we 'Skyped' them in and it ran fine.

(Although, I'm told I need to work on my cinematography skills...)

I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.
